The Peanut Shell Early Childhood Learning Center is seeking an experienced lead teacher. This position supports the work of the Y, providing direction for children, ages ranging from 6 months to 2 years, in the classroom, and implement program curriculum. The Lead Teacher ensures providing a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
- Implement curriculum within the established guidelines, following the guidance and direction of the Assistant Director in charge of curriculum.
- Nurture children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth.
- Build trusing, professional relationships among youth and within families.
- Supervise the children, classroom, and all activities, including ADA accomodations where appropriate.
- Suppervise Assistant Teachers in Classroom, including completion of performance reviews.
- Make ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child in classroom.
- Cultivates positive relationships, conducts parent conferences, and maintains effective communication with parents.
- Engage parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.
- Maintains program site and equipment.
- Maintains required program records.
- Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings and training.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- CPR, First Aid, AED Certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
- Minimum of two (2) years previous experience working with children, ages ranging from 6 months to 2 years in a developmental setting preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience.
- Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic professional relationships with people of different backgrounds.
