Business Intelligence and Analytics Intern

We are seeking smart, energetic and ambitious college students to join our AARP’s IT department this summer. The BI Intern will provide support to IT by assisting with the creation of deliverables and supporting an agile development team while getting acclimated to a business setting. The intern will also assist with administering BI and EDW applications while working with end users. During this internship program, you will gain experience and exposure to BI and EDW related key projects and processes.

This 3 months internship will be in our Rockville, MD office.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The selected candidates will work in a dynamic people-focused environment where they will interact with key stakeholders to assist with the development and enhancement our business processes.

The candidate may work on one or more of the following, but not restricted to:
Work with reporting and analytical tools to support the implementation of data presentation and decision-making BI projects. Ensuring proper recording, documentation and closure of assigned tasks. Properly escalating unresolved queries to the next level of support. Utilize BI Applications like Tableau and Microstrategy to tap into AARP's data resources and build an essential library of standard and custom reports.

Some of the key responsibilities will be:

  • Assist with load monitoring on Dev/Test environments and improve automation on existing processes.
  • Ability to review existing ETL processes and update specifications documents.
  • Analyze documentation for policies, procedures, and best practices, and providing users with Tableau support.
  • Assist team members with drafting deliverables for our clients
  • Assist the development team by supporting the Agile/SCRUM process and attending weekly stand up meetings
  • Assist with documenting internal team processes and fostering a continuous improvement culture
  • Assist with requirements gathering and the creation of solution mockups/wireframes
Educational Background: 
Interns must be currently enrolled in a degreed program at an accredited college or university; maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post doctorate students.   
Skills/Experience: 
  • AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers.  This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program.
