Under the general direction of the CEO, the Senior Program Director for Healthy Living oversees the development and operations of membership, health and wellness, aquatics, youth and other Y program areas. Responsible for assuring growth and improving programs through retention and engagement of membership, quality and consistency in programming and increase in overall enrollment and retention in programs.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote program and/or membership growth for the YMCA.
  • Executes strategies to ensure that members and/or program participants connect with one another and connect with the YMCA.
  • Develops and controls department budgets related to the position.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Facilitates communication and provides leadership.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships within the community.
  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations. Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
  • Ensures high quality member-focused programs through innovative program development, evaluations and ongoing training of staff.
  • Ability to create and sustain a culture of excellence and work and thrive as part of a cohesive team.
  • Ability to lift/move heavy equipment and clean when necessary.
  • Requires a flexible schedule to maintain consistency and productivity for this department.
  • Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote program and/or membership growth for the YMCA. Executes strategies, monitors objectives and takes appropriate action to ensure the achievement of those objectives.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors assigned operating budgets (income and expense) and oversees the assigned department budgets s to ensure that revenue targets are met and expenses are controlled.
  • Ensures high quality member-focused programs through innovative program development, evaluations and on-going training of staff. Ensures that members and/or program participants connect with one another and connect with the YMCA.
  • Assists with the creation of publicity plan and schedule as it relates to the promotion of programs and events.
  • Provides leadership and support to all association special events and fund-raising activities and volunteer committees/ boards as assigned. Develops and maintains effective working relationships within the community.
  • Ensure all Department Operations are consistent with the Association procedures.  This includes safety, insurance, incident/accident reports, purchasing, HR and Payroll procedures, accounting, YUSA standards and maintains appropriate logs and records. Provides data and reports as required for assigned programs.
  • Maintains a safe work environment, free of clutter, debris and hazardous conditions and ensures cleanliness of facility.
  • Serves as Manager on Duty (MOD).
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, recreation, business or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum five years of progressive management experience, knowledge, skills and ability in fiscal management, fund development, Board and community relations, marketing and public relations and staff supervision and development in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency showing successful operational growth.
  • The ability to make decisions and manage conflicts is an expectation.
  • Strong oral communication skills required for occasional public speaking responsibilities.
  • Excellent written communication skills and proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • Excellent technical, organization and time management skills.
  • Excellent human relation skills and proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of and support the mission, vision, standards, policies, procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards and ethics of the Y.
  • Ability to anticipate and solve practical problems or resolve issues.
  • Independent judgment to determine project guidelines, purpose, follow-through and completion.
  • Must have flexible work schedule.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00
