Youth Sports Director

Under the direction of the CEO, the Youth Sports Director is responsible for the administration, management, and supervision of all youth and adult sports programs, teen leaders club, and the Adventure Center. The position will also assist with the delivery youth special events, sports camps, and sports training activities. Must be able to work as a part of a staff team dedicated to providing quality programs for all persons and to meet the YMCA mission.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives.
  • Develops, coordinates and controls department budget.
  • Establishes new program activities, increases participation, and expands programming within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Secures and schedules athletic fields and facilities. Transports and sets up equipment for games and practices; monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment as budget permits.
  • Organizes and conducts parent meetings, and training and orientation sessions for coaches.
  • Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules sports officials; develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines and handbooks.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation 
  • in program.
  • Conducts referee and officiated duties as needed.
  • Plan, organizes and conducts sports clinics.
  • Plans, schedules, and staffs summer specialty camps.
  • Coordinates the Home School Gym Program.
  • Provides direct leadership for teen programs including leaders, Youth in Government, dances, and Healthy Kids Day.
  • Contributes related information and schedules for the program brochure and assists in the marketing and distribution of sports program information.
  • Coordinates and manages background checks for department staff and volunteers and ensures certifications are current and complete.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, and develops program staff and volunteers.
  • Inspects equipment within program and sports areas for safety hazards, damage or wear.
  • Serve on the Youth and Social Responsibility Committee.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Upholds guidelines of Director on Duty responsibilities and remains visible to participants when on duty.
Educational Background: 
A Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation or other related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • An active background in sports participation sports administration and officiating.
  • Knowledge of league and tournament scheduling.
  • Passionate belief in the Y’s cause of nurturing the potential of all youth, supporting healthy living for all people and finding ways to help and support our neighbors.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Passion for and experience in training youth.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED and O2 certifications within 60 days of hire
