Under the direction and guidance of the Senior Program Director and consistent with the mission of the YMCA and the policies and guidelines of the YMCA of Western North Carolina, the Program Manager - Athletics is responsible for the effective operation of all athletics programming for the Downtown Asheville YMCA. Responsibility within these program areas will include but is not limited to: program operation, program development and growth, participant satisfaction, participant and member retention, community collaborations, and staff supervision. The Program Manager - Athletics is accountable for delivering exceptional and outstanding programs and service to YMCA members and program participants. He/She is a highly visible representative of the YMCA mission, theme and character development values and is responsible for knowing and properly executing all YMCA policies and procedures.
- Manages, directs and coordinates athletics camps, leagues and clinics, etc. for all ages.
- Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Officiates as needed.
- Works with the Senior Program Director to develop, manage and control budgets related to the position. Ensures programs operate within budget and that program fees are collected.
- Develop monthly gym schedules and communicate any schedule changes to the applicable people (website, Y mobile app).
- Engage in Play for Your School program through local elementary schools/after school programs
- Supervise sports staff and volunteers
- Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas and ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
- Ensure high quality programs through innovative program development, evaluations and ongoing training of staff.
- Provides for upkeep of and communication with assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.
- Develops and maintains relationships with school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
- Provides staff leadership for annual fund raising campaign and committees as assigned.
- Maintains proper records/department files.
- Participates in Center leadership team meetings and Association task force meetings as assigned.
- Assists in the development and distribution of program information, including marketing efforts.
- Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
- Works in the Program Department 40 hours a week (at least 10 hours of which should be in direct service).
- Ability to work a non-traditional schedule - Must be available for evening and weekend shifts.
- Initiates communication with the Sr. Program Director as necessary concerning program issues, personnel conflicts, and member concerns.
- Serves as a member of the Manager on Duty rotation at the Asheville center.
- Performs other duties as required by the Sr. Program Director.
- 21 years of age or older
- Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR PRO; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
- Previous experience in supervision, operations/programming is preferred.
- Strong background in athletics, ability to officiate multiple sports preferred
- Knowledge of YMCA of the USA sports administration or YMCA Youth Super Sports Director is preferred
- Experience working with the public
- Must have demonstrated good customer service skills.
- Strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
- Physically perform all CPR and First Aid skills, assist as needed in emergency situations.
- Move to various locations in and around the entire facility.
- Bend or stoop and reach to various height levels and be able to lift equipment (up to 50 lbs.).
- Communicate verbally including clear and understandable speech, hear noises and distress signals.
Hourly: $13.50 - $15.00
