Under the guidance and direction of the Operations Director, and in concert with the policies of the YMCA as extablished by the Board of Directors, is responsible for providing leadership in the following areas: 

  • Supervision of Wellness Department staff in coordination with the Operations Director
  • Customer Service
  • Assist with the Wellness Department budget
  • Risk Management
  • Reporting processes
  • Facility management regarding WellnessCenter and Group Exercise Class personnel, equipment, and physical space.

The position of Wellness Coordinator requires a background that includes both formal training and practical experience in the areas of health and fitness, at least 2 years of professional YMCA experience, and professional skills in managing one’s self and others. The Wellness Coordinator must be a mature person with excellent verbal and written communication skills, have the ability to inspire confidence and enthusiasm, and be able to engage readily with various groups and maintain an effective working relationship with YMCA staff, members, and volunteers. The Wellness Coordinator must be qualified to teach group exercise and other health and wellness classes as needed and be able to manage the multi-faceted physical programs/services to achieve strategic objectives.

Areas of Responsibility:

Skills/Experience: 
  • Assist in hiring and be responsible for training and scheduling wellness center and group exercise staff as well as staff working offsite with our corporate partners (e.g. Dorothy Love, Airstream, Emerson Climate Technologies etc.).
  • Ensure quality in the area of wellness center orientations and operations, group exercise classes, and offsite wellness responsibilities.
  • Be responsible for assisting with and overseeing the planning, scheduling, and monitoring of all YMCA group exercise classes with the Group Exercise Coordinator.
  • Work with local health professionals to provide on-site wellness programs and health fairs.
  • Make recommendations on facility usage guidelines, recruitment practices, and risk management guidelines
  •  Oversee the FITQUEST programming, monitoring set-up and workouts for all members utilizing the program, communicating with ActivTrax in regards to any questions or issues that arise, ensure proper functioning of the kiosk, and all other FITQUEST or ActivTrax related issues including communication with welcome center staff.
  • Oversee all personal training appointments, scheduling new clients with trainers for their initial appointment, and ensuring that payment is received for training sessions.
  • Work closely with the Membership Engagement Director to create and implement member engagement strategies within the Wellness Department.
