This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Sports Director develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA programming.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.  Including but not limited to activity rules, guidelines and handbooks.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff, contractors and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Establishes new activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, organizes and schedules program registrations. Reviews and processes program scholarship applications.
  • Manages payroll related transactions and monitors for accuracy and completeness.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Coordinates scheduling, safety and use of facilities (on and off-site) for program activities and events.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Actively participates in branch, department and association staff meetings and/or related trainings.
  • Compiles program statistics and submits reports. Makes program modifications as needed. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least one year previous supervisory experience in customer service.
  • Complete within 30 days of hire: Child Abuse Prevention Training; BLS CPR; First Aid; Emergency Oxygen Administration
  • Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background check.
Compensation/Benefits: 

$33,000.00 - $36,000.00
