Create, implement, manage and model systems and practices that support extraordinary youth development experiences association-wide. Build relationship-based programs and services that move members/participants along a continuum from a casual connection to a committed level through increased involvement in youth development programming. The position is responsible and accountable for all aspects of the department activities, events, associates, volunteer and budget at the assigned center.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Designing, planning and executing a diverse schedule of youth and family development programs, classes and special events for all members and participants of all abilities and levels.
- Responsible for overseeing youth and family programs and classes’ maintenance and operations; including quality checks and completion of required reports. Responsible for setting up for program and classes at least 30 minutes prior to scheduled time and looking over the facility for anything that could be harmful to participants.
- Work with key leaders to review potential areas of risk related to youth.
- Must notify appropriate associates of any unsafe conditions, needed repairs, complaints, accidents or injuries to associates or participants immediately. Proper reporting procedures must be followed.
- Responsible for ensuring a safe, fun and controlled atmosphere. The Director has the authority to remove anyone from the premise, indoors and outside that he/she deems is behaving in a manner unbecoming a Y event.
- Responsible for overseeing the Kid’s zone Program, associates and curriculum.
- Oversight of planning and supervision toward center specific programs such as Kids Night Out, Teen Night Out, etc.
- Recruits, trains and supervises in a professional and objective manner; including hiring, discipline, work performance reviews and separation.
- Conducts department associate meetings on a regular basis.
- Prepares annual report and monitors monthly.
- Be a team player with all associates and volunteers.
- Assist in the volunteer development, community development and find development activities. Responsible for raising financial contributions and community sponsorships for the Y.
- Ensure self, associates and volunteers are current and knowledgeable in all areas of certifications through the Y of the USA and other local agencies including First Aid, CPR (Adult, Child and Infant) and Administering Emergency Oxygen. Must conduct regular in-service and training opportunities for associates and volunteers.
- Attend community and association functions and events to promote the Y, its mission and programs.
- Schedule and lead regular association-wide department team meetings
- Schedule and perform regular kid’s zone audits at our 14 family centers on annual basis. If deficiencies in quality checks are noticed from Y centers, work with center staff and leadership on immediate actions that are needed to get center to standard performance.
- Responsible for assisting in on-boarding efforts for any staff performing in lead role at center level for kid’s zone and youth programming.
- Spearheading efforts on any association-wide partnership or collaboration in the area of kid’s zone programming or youth development programming.
- Work with leadership at centers across association on best practices and standards on kid’s zone and Youth Development programming.
- Act as operational liaison between center operations and Youth Development Services to share best practice ideas, programming implementation and shared resources. This includes participating in leadership meetings for both areas.
- Work in partnership with Youth Development Services leadership on planning and scheduling of program activities throughout the city.
- Scheduling, planning and oversight of center-wide special events such as Trunk or Treat, Healthy Kids’ Day, etc.
- Oversight of Togetherhood program and Volunteer Champion of center
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience:
- Three years’ experience in this or a related field.
- Three years’ experience with hiring, training, mentoring and supervising associates/volunteers as well as guiding and monitoring associate/volunteer teams.
- Able to work with diverse groups of people in an inclusive and effective manner.
- Must be able to relate to people on all levels in a friendly and consistent manner.
- Must be able to manage and monitor department budget.
- Detail oriented with good organizational skills, and be multi-task proficient.
- Able to make independent and sound decisions in a fast paced environment.
- Able to exercise high levels of discretion and confidentiality.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $42,000.00 - $53,000.00
