With the guidance and direction of the Associate Executive Director, the Health & Wellness Director administers the policies and programs of the Association including all fitness programs including Group Fitness, relating to adult and specialty programs, active older adults (senior programs), teen programs and provides quality membership service by coordinating recreational usage of the facility and various membership benefits.  The Health & Wellness Director will represent the Old Colony YMCA in a positive, professional manner, resulting in friendly, convenient and courteous service.  The Health & Wellness Director will display and encourage the character traits of caring, responsibility, honesty and respect in the fulfillment of all job duties.

Areas of Responsibility: 

PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with Assoc. Exec. Director to determine fitness program development for youth, teens, adults, seniors and specialty groups.
  • Coordinates annual special events such as Road Race, Zumbathon, Yoga Retreats and Spinathon. Expand current YMCA Fitness programs to outreach program sites.
  • Conduct various weight management/loss programs including promotion, testing and staff coordination.
  • Prepare departmental and branch brochures as well as all promotional materials in accordance with set timelines.
  • Promote membership enrollment and foster leadership development by encouraging members to be involved in   committees and other volunteer roles.
  • Review and evaluate enrollments and services, and document and report findings to the Assoc. Exec. Director on a session by session basis.  Accurate records kept and maintained for use in budgeting, program monitoring and control.
  • Extend the YMCA service in the community by scheduling community based facilities and increasing in-house services. 
  • Create outlines and schedules for all new programs within respective departments and present them to supervisor with plan for implementation.
  • Interpret YMCA policy, mission and objectives to members, employees, leaders and community.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings. Meet as needed with key program staff.
  • In cooperation with the Assoc. Exec. Director, develop short and long range planning of respective departments.

SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL:

  • Provide training programs and opportunities for fitness staff.  Direct personnel in the performance of direct responsibilities.  Meet regularly with staff.  Hold in-house training and support off-site school training, encourages staff to attend. 
  • Review and document the effectiveness of non-exempt personnel annually, utilizing the salary administration policy  as a basis for recommended adjustments.
  • Employ non-exempt and hourly personnel within budget guidelines in respective departments.  Build supply of  instructors, actively recruit volunteers and staff for group leadership.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare respective departmental budgets.  Administer approved budgets and take appropriate action to maintain fiscal soundness, correcting variances as needed. 
  • To adhere to all fiscal policies and procedures such as petty cash, member services, member registration, purchase orders, and employee expenses.

FACILITY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain all assigned facility program areas and equipment in a neat, clean and organized manner.  Work with the Building Superintendent and vendors in keeping all fitness equipment in working order.  Maintain contacts and          management of all outside fitness equipment service contracts.
  • Develop an extensive preventative maintenance program for all staff to assist in under the Health & Wellness Director’s guidance and supervision.  Maintain an inventory of replacement parts for all equipment to reduce the  amount of down time on equipment.

INTERDIVISIONAL/COMMUNITY/VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate support to the Annual Campaign by participating and aiding the teams, divisions, recruiting and supervising volunteers, contributors and campaigners, and/or soliciting pledges.
  • Promote Y programs through public appearances and presentations.
  • Assist with specialty program activities.
Educational Background: 
Bachelors Degree in a related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum four years related experience
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification or within 30 days of employment.
  • Darkness to Light training within 60 days of employment.
  • Previous supervisory experience required, minimum two years.
  • Must be able to conduct fitness classes, lift, push and pull heavy weights (minimum of 50 lbs) to demonstrate equipment and technique, and to set up and break down equipment.
