Under the direction of the Membership Director II and Aquatics Director, the Program Coordinator is a multi-role position responsible for assisting with the daily supervision of, and planning for all aquatic and sports programs. We are looking for applicants who can work a flexible schedule that include evenings and weekends up to 40 hours per week.
Areas of Responsibility:
Sports
- Responsible for the leadership and development of youth sports, adult sports, and sports camps.
- Coordinate, plan, and implement youth & adult sports programs as assigned.
- Act as primary liaison between YMCA and participants for daily activities (i.e. scheduling changes, equipment distribution, minor disputes, etc.).
- Assist program director in the preparation of teams, schedules, clinics, etc.
- Supervises all sports related programs.
- Recruit volunteers for effective and efficient operation of YMCA programs
- Attend and assist with any Youth/Adult Sports Staff meetings and organizational meetings as required.
- Ensure that all games begin on time, schedule officials and be prepared to officiate in case of absent or tardy official.
- Keep score during the course of the games.
- Know rules on the eligibility of players.
- Distribute equipment and information to coaches and participants as needed.
- Arrive at game site 30 minutes prior to each game time.
- Act as the authority in conflict resolution, rain-outs, scheduling, etc. in the absence of the program director.
- Assure set up and take down of all equipment used at his/her facility occurs on or before game days.
- Assist with marking fields at each facility.
- With assistance from the program director, continue to develop the sports program by having end of season debriefing meetings.
- To help assist with start or end of season events with guidance from program director.
- Assist in training coaches and officials.
- Responsible for ensuring program quality i.e. end of season evaluations, pro-active communication with staff and participants and their families.
Aquatics
- 2+ year’s previous aquatics programming experience.
- Demonstrated maturity, on the job performance and previous participation in staff trainings.
- If prior experience was at the YMCA of Austin, the employee file must include 2-3 positive yearly performance reviews.
- Must have intermediate to advanced skills, including knowledge of swim strokes and lifeguard responsibilities.
- Current First Aid, CPR/AED and Emergency Oxygen certifications.
- Current YMCA Lifeguard certification. American Red Cross certification acceptable with YMCA crossover course.
- Current YMCA swim instructor certification.
- Current YMCA Lifeguard Instructor certification, preferred.
- Completion of the YMCA Child Abuse Prevention Training once employed.
- Current Certified Pool Operator certification, preferred.
- Must have reliable transportation to attend work.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
- Strong computer aptitude and/or experience and have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Specific Assist with ongoing supervision and training.
- ·Prepare monthly attendance reports, input budget figures, and tabulate attendance and pool test figures.
- Oversee guard/instructor scheduling, help secure substitutes, assist with and conduct staff orientations, assist with staff communications, assist with payroll.
- Know and fulfill all outlined responsibilities of swim instructor or lifeguard as needed.
- Monitor and ensure proper mechanical operations of pools (backwash, chemical feeding, ect.)
- Attend and assist with the planning and execution of required meetings, in-services and/or trainings.
- Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate; refers members and participants to other programs.
- Assume special aquatics projects and administrative duties as requested by the Aquatics Director.
- Lifeguard at any time to ensure 25 patrons to 1 lifeguard ratios at all pools and waterfronts.
- Instruct swim lessons when deemed necessary by the Aquatics Director.
Skills/Experience:
- Must be interested in contributing to the mission of the YMCA.
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age upon date of hire
- Know and follow the YMCA of Austin's Human Resources Guidelines, Code of Ethics, payroll procedures (including completing timesheets), and established emergency procedures.
- Render first aid as needed and complete incident/accident report form for every injury/altercation on the premises.
- Actively and enthusiastically support the Branch and Association goals and directions through effective completion of tasks and verbal display to peers, staff, members and guests
- Assist in processing employment paperwork.
- Assure written position descriptions and performance standards for staff.
Compensation/Benefits:
- Individual membership to all YMCA's of Austin (over $600.00/year value);
- Full benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance plus employer-matched retirement upon reaching eligibility.
Hourly: $13.00 - $14.00
