The Senior Accountant provides critical support for YMCA’s annual financial data collection process and the lead for Financial Support invoicing and remittance processing. A high level of financial non-profit fluency and superior customer service is necessary for this position as this position frequently interacts with YMCA leaders. This position will also be responsible for financial reporting of an affiliate entity.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Billing, reconciliation, collection and reporting of Y-USA’s Financial Support
- Data verification and analysis of subsidiary ledgers, ensuring accuracy and quality of data in all systems
- Supports YMCA’s annual reporting via online 990 integrated tool
- Analyzes annual financial report inquiries and communicates with member associations to the mutual satisfaction and compliance of organization policies and generally accepted accounting principles
- Prepares balance sheet reconciliations, identifies and resolves variances in financial records
- Compiles data for financial reports, creates reports/spreadsheetsusing Excel and other financial software
- Works collaboratively with internal departments supporting compliance and membership standards
- Records transactions, prepares monthly financial reports and interacts with volunteer board for affiliate entity
- Assists in the completion of the annual audit report
- Maintains current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards
- Complies with accounts receivable records management legal requirements and Y-USA policies and facilitates the imaging and indexing of all A/R
- Performs other duties asassigned
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field is required
Skills/Experience:
- 2-5 years of experience
- Professional experience in public accounting or non-profit organization is preferred
- Professional experience in Form 990 preparation is preferred
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite especially Excel is required
- Must possess strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
- Must possess strong written and oral communication skills
- Must be detail-oriented; possess the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Must be a CPA or working toward certification
- Must be comfortable in fast-developing environment as well as willing to take initiative in meeting needs of stakeholders
- Must possess the ability to handle confidential information withs ensitivity
- Must possess flexibility to cross-train in other functional areas of Financial Services to contribute to special projects
