This "shared service" position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  Oversees and manages financial matters, investments, operating systems, and human resources for the Boothbay Region YMCA and Central Lincoln County YMCA.  Provides strategic direction and leadership for YMCAs’ business operations and initiatives. Recommends related policies and ensures their implementation.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Monitors monthly financial operations, prepares analysis and reports, and gives guidance to executive and leadership staff. Works closely with directors and operations staff on issues that affect financial outcome.  Prepares specific recommendations.
  • Manages the staff and oversees the operations of the business offices and provides support to other departments as needed.
  • Works directly with assigned committee(s) and task force(s) of the board (Finance, Investment, Audit, HR, Capital Development, for example) to build volunteer relationships, develop policies, monitor their implementation and meet the related needs of the boards.
  • Reviews, updates, and/or develops internal control systems for the YMCAs and oversees internal audits which check for compliance on a variety of policies and standards. Provides recommendations for improvement.
  • Oversees and certifies the annual audit and meets with the outside auditors as needed to maintain communications and keep them informed of changes in the YMCA.  Ensures that current accounting standards and legal requirements are met.
  • Manages investments, under the direction of the Investment Committee, and within the risk tolerance expressed by the respective Boards via the asset allocation policy.
  • Develops performance indicators and measurement systems for tracking strategic plan objectives.  Evaluates current business models and leads efforts to modify or redesign business models where necessary.
  • Oversees preparation of reports to YMCA of the USA and governmental agencies.  Oversees preparation of tax returns including IRS Form 990.
  • Oversees the development of the annual operating budgets.  Works closely with department leaders to ensure that budgets are well-planned, realistic, and prepared in a timely manner.
  • Manages and oversee personnel and payroll administration including maintaining records and related systems.
  • Oversees compensation and benefit programs, including job description and classification, salary structure and salary adjustments.  Oversees benefit plan communication, enrollment and administration. 
  • Establishes, maintains and/or monitors all banking and financing relationships.
  • Maintains all necessary records and accounting reports and records all transactions on a timely basis.
  • Maintains good working relationships with auditors, bankers, attorneys and other professional advisors.
  • Represents the YMCA with key community organizations and events as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or equivalent; MBA, CPA or CMA may be preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Eight or more years of substantive experience in accounting and financial management.
  • Must be a team player, with excellent interpersonal and problem/conflict solving skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of general business matters required including budget development, financial reporting, cash management, business taxes, banking and debt 
  • financing instruments.
  • Excellent personal computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft.  Proficiency in the Y’s operating software – DAXKO will become a priority of this position.
  • Experience with investment management and asset allocation preferred.
  • Experience in effectively managing a staff team.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently in a fast pace environment.
  • Previous experience with voluntary/nonprofit organizations preferred.
Compensation/Benefits: 

$70,000.00 - $80,000.00
