Our distinguished association is looking for a Wellness Director to ensure an outstanding wellness experience by providing support and development in motivating monthly member activity calendars, leading excellent wellness floor services, supporting the delivery of exceptional personal wellness training experiences, inspiring excellent new member onboarding experiences to increase members’ satisfaction and participation in wellness activities.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Actively supporting the YMCA’s Community Impact in serving as an ambassador of the Y brand and an advocate for making a difference in their branch’s host community.
  • Enthusiastically upholds the Association’s Customer Service Policies.
  • Collaborates with fellow branch-level Directors to support branch events, member service initiatives and membership/program growth.
  • Works with Association’s Wellness Service Team and Membership Service Team to support monthly meetings, Subcommittee Initiatives and other key Association-wide work.
  • In support of meeting the monthly Wellness Department goals.
  • Assigns individual goals to each Wellness Department team member that align with achieving the branch monthly goals.
  • Provides leadership and support to staff that results in their succesful monthly goal achievement.
  • Maintains financial integrity in Wellness Department Operations.
  • Prepares, analyzes & controls the monthly budget.
  • Ensures that staff properly track and record all Wellness services delivered to members at the YMCA according to the Association’s Standard Operating Procedures, and, that staff are promptly paid at the Association’s approved rates for each hour of service delivered.
  • Schedules Wellness Department services in accordance with the approved budgeted expenses.
  • Reviews payroll for wellness staff to ensure complete integrity of all Wellness operations, member payment procedures and staff payroll distribution.
  • Maintains the branch’s daily schedule of personal training programs and wellness services to members.
  • Ensures that all Wellness Department staff reliably maintain their member client training sessions, floor hours, wellness consults and all wellness services as scheduled. Ensures that substitute instructors are coordinated as needed to maintain continuity in service delivery.
  • Supports timely and proactive communication with members and staff on all scheduled events/ activities that supports the best service experience. Works with branch leadership and Association Services office staff to support program/service marketing needs.
  • Tracks class/program/service participation to help guide future scheduling decisions
  • Supports branch delivery of YMCA Community Health programs and services (i.e. Diabetes Prevention Program, LiveStrong, Community Health Workshop) in partnership with the Association and YUSA Community Health Leadership team members.
  • Supports scheduling special events and other key branch initiatives as requested.
  • Wellness Floor/Studio Operations.
  • Leads the Wellness Department team upholiding Association standards for Facility Excellence in the cleanliness and safe/proper-working order of all equipment.
  • Ensures that all Wellness areas are clean and safe, according to Association Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensures that all Wellness services are delivered according to the Association Standard Operating Procedures and in compliance with Wellness Department Policies.
  • Wellness Staff Management.
  • Directly recruit, hire, train and supervise the Associate Wellness Director (as appropriate per branch structure), Personal Trainers and Wellness Coaches to support continuity in Wellness Service delivery. Maintains staffing levels at each position that support the Association Standards for service delivery and revenue goal achievement.
  • Lead job fairs, on-site talent assessments, workshops and staff coaching sessions.
  • Maintains accurate records of all staff personal training certifications (including self)& supports staff completion of workshops & recertification training as needed according to Association policy.
  • Ensures staff only provide Wellness Servies that are in alignment with the necessary certifications that are actively held by each supporting staff member.
  • Supports a safe, inclusive, welcoming wellness facility environment in upholding the Association’s core values and related Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Leads staff meetings and leads one-on-one staff coaching/development sessions. All staff leadership follows the Association approved Standard Operating Procedures and Wellness Policies.
  • Takes an active role in the annual sustaining fundraising campaign.
  • Has the option (with approval) to personal train or teach group exercise classes at their YMCA branch for up to five (5) hours per week and receive additional compensation based on the pre-determined rate for the training session or class. Additional compensation must be approved by the Executive Director.
Educational Background: 
A Bachelor’s degree in a related field (i.e. PE/Exercise Physiology) is required
Skills/Experience: 
  • Current national certification in personal training from a recognized national certifying organization (the Y’s list of the top ten certifications) is required
  • Current CPR and AED certified is required (or attained immediately upon employment)
  • A minimum of five-years experiencein personal training is required. The ideal candidate will also have experience working with Community Health programs/services.
  • Additional experience in Group Exercise instruction class is preferred.
  • Certification in YMCA Healthy Living Programs is preferred
  • Strong relationship building skills required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Financial management experience required
  • Facility management experience required
  • Program delivery experience required
  • Leadership/Supervision/Staff development experience required
  • Knowledgeable on wellness equipment available in YMCA facilities and the safe use of that equipment
  • Display an outgoing personality with an ability to be sensitive to the needs of each individual member
