Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal resident camp. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Responsible for the safety, health, and well-being of a cottage of campers.
- Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
- Responsible for being an active participant in the activity area assigned.
- Practice good role-modeling by acting in a way appropriate to mold young lives, both on and off duty.
- Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Attends staff meetings and trainings.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
- Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
- Supervise and manage activity staff.
- Responsible for operation of all Land Programs, including teaching level of staff, staff training, staff evaluation, safety procedures, level system.
- Safety and Operations of the following land activities: Archery, Riflery, Alpine Tower/Challenge Course, Environmental Discovery, Dance, Drama, Martial Art, Athletic Field, Basketball/Pavilion, Tennis, Skate Park, Creative Arts.
- Responsible for taking part in Manager on Duty and session stay over rotation.
- Striving to maintain and improve upon the quality and safety of all land activities.
- All other duties assigned.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum 3 years’ experienceat a leadership role within a resident and/or day camp setting.
- Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: Archery, Riflery, Climbing, general sports, arts and crafts, martial arts, outdoor living, dance, drama, water skiing, sailing, boat driving, skating, etc
- At least 21 years of age.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training required.
- Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
- Ability to work long hours outdoors while maintaining focus and energy levels.
- Ability to walk considerable distances and spend significant periods standing.
- Some activity areas may require ability to lift up to 50lbs and/or be flexible enough to perform the duties required – Sailing, Motorboat Driving, Alpine Tower.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $43,000.00 - $45,000.00
