Under the general direction of the SVP of Advancement, the Vice President of Marketing & Communications provides executive level leadership, fiscal oversight and project management to comprehensive marketing, communications and public relations strategies. The incumbent is a brand strategist whose expertise lies in leading both internal and external attraction efforts that drive business success while positioning the YMCA of Greater Rochester as a cause driven organization. The VP of Marketing & Communications oversees media relations, advertising, digital communications while providing direct supervision to the Marketing & Communications Department.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Supports the CEO, senior management team, board and other Association leadership with counsel, guidance and collaboration on communication issues, crisis management and business development strategies.
  • Effectively communicates, drives and executes the Association’s Strategic Plan-“Delivering our Cause”.
  • Provides communications leadership for key Association Events including Corporate Board Meetings.
  • Develops and implements attraction strategies for membership and key program areas using data as a catalyst for development and an indicator of business success.
  • Ensures brand compliance and consistency of messages across all operating units by aligning key functions such as; member engagement, program enrollment, philanthropic communications and staff relations.
  • Increases the visibility and enhances the positive image of the YMCA of Greater Rochester in key marketing areas through efficient and effective application of a broad range of broadcast, print, interactive and Internet Social Media tools to creatively enhance volunteer, member, employee, community, government and business outreach for marketing and public relations initiatives.
  • Directly supervises Marketing Director and Marketing Manager while ensuring synergy exists with key communications/brand advocates at the branch level.
  • Assists the Sr. VP of Advancement in the development and implementation of key membership initiatives including but not limited to; Referral Program and Corporate Partners in Health.
  • Manages and evaluates relationships with public relations and marketing firms of record to ensure effectiveness.
  • Incorporates new technologies as they emerge to fully communicate the association’s message.  
  • Develops and implements the annual operating budget for the Marketing and Communications Department.
  • Responsible for the development and/or coordination of Association collaterals.
  • Serve as the key spokesperson on behalf of the YMCA of Greater Rochester; provides counsel and guidance to senior level leaders to be effective communicators.
  • Provides support as necessary to colleagues/YMCA’s throughout the country as a member of the YMCA of Greater Rochester Partner Y Team.
  • Oversees market research designed to strengthen the YMCA of Greater Rochester’s business position.
  • Represents the YMCA with key community organizations and events as required.
  • Assists the CEO and senior leadership team in any other projects, as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications or equivalent;
Skills/Experience: 
  • Five to seven years’ experience leading Marketing and Communications efforts.  Experience in a metropolitan YMCA setting is a plus.
  • Technical knowledge, gained experience and understanding of best practices  in web site development, digital promotion, social media marketing tools, print, radio and TV. 
  • Demonstrated experience developing comprehensive marketing and attraction plans leading to fiscal growth and increased community awareness.
  • Professional and effective oral and written communication skills essential.  Human relation skills are regarded as critical.
  • Experience with effectively leading and managing direct and indirect staff teams in a Marketing/Communications environment.
  • Project management skills are essential to success.
  • The incumbent must become knowledgeable of the goals and mission of the YMCA, its unique nature as a voluntary organization and its operations and programs.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $78,000.00 - $85,000.00
