YMCA Camp Letts is seeking a dynamic individual to work at our 2,600-acre, co-educational summer residence camp and conference center located on the Rhode River, south of Annapolis, Maryland.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Works directly with the Executive Director and/or Associate Executive Director and Leadership team to promote and deliver the YMCA mission and philosophy to staff and members
  • Creates, manages, supervises, and implements Summer Camp and Retreat Center related programming in accordance with the Association’s mission, policies, and goals
  • Assists the Executive Director and/or Associate Executive Director with operations, policies, programs, projects, schedule and budget preparation and implementation
  • Prepares, analyzes, and controls programming budget for retreat Center and assists the Summer Camp Director with inventory and purchasing for summer camp.
  • Will create and sustain a Team building program. The program should be customizable to the needs of the group so that it will improve relationships, promote teamwork and encourage leadership. The program will incorporate experiential learning, team challenges and outdoor high adventure with facilitated discussions.
  • The land director must be able to provide programs that strengthen and inspire teams to take on new challenges together.
  • The Land Director will assist the marketing team to advertise and market retreat center programming.
  • Will create a recreation based programs for school and groups not requesting team building and team development. The recreation program will align with the core values of the YMCA.
  • Works with Retreat Center Director to ensure all program activities are staffed with trained individuals who deliver consistent quality programing customized to the needs, abilities and ages of individual groups.
  • Provides exceptional service to guests, community groups, and related agencies creating an extraordinary experience that will make the name Camp Letts synonymous with Quality programming. The Land Director must be able to train staff to do likewise especially when working independently.
  • Manages aquatic program (pool and waterfront), high and low challenge course, and paintball, archery and land games during retreat center season. Assists the Summer Camp Director to manage these areas during the summer camp season.
  • Schedules Retreat Center programming in preparation of group’s arrival. Makes contact with incoming groups to discuss special needs and any customizations to our standard programming the group leader might need.
  • Provides a programming presence at Camp Open House and special event programming.
  • Must obtain Pool operator license and is responsible for the opening, licensing and permitting, operation and closing of the Swimming pool
  • Takes an active role in the annual Caring for Community and other fundraising campaigns and events
  • Conducts staff meetings and in-service trainings with program staff.
  • Maintains close daily contact with the Associate Executive Director on the status of equipment, group satisfaction and program usage, and makes well-researched purchasing recommendations
  • Attends appropriate community events and is a member of appropriate civic associations to promote the Y
  • Staffs department as needed (meeting budget)
  • Ensures smooth running of department with professional staff that work as a team
  • Part of leadership team for branch—interfaces well with other departments
  • Provides positive and constructive leadership for staff
  • Works effectively with guests, campers and staff and observes the YMCA Code of Conduct at all times
  • Performs assignments when scheduled as Facility Duty Officer
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or 4 years Program development experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience acting as main point of contact with groups, users, participants, or the public
  • Experience working with various departments or groups to coordinate schedules
  • Experience in training staff
  • Skilled with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience working with youth groups
  • Ability to effectively multi-task, have excellent customer service skills, and be a team player
  • Must understand and be committed to working with diverse population and to promote YMCA character development
