As the Director, Cross-functional Data Analysis, Reporting & Governance, you will have the unique opportunity to drive org-wide alignment around cross-functional data by playing a pivotal role in shaping the reporting on top-line data for all critical outcomes (programmatic, financial and operational). Specifically, you will influence how and when regional and national stakeholders interact with data on our most fundamental measures of success by leveraging your abilities to manipulate data and conduct robust analysis, to visualize data in innovative ways, and to design and evolve the tools, systems, and feedback channels needed to do so most effectively. In addition, you will participate in accelerating our data governance maturity through the design of the org-wide Data Governance Program and work cross-functionally with all levels of the organization to implement the initiatives. This position is a unique opportunity for an individual with exceptional data analytics and visualization skills as well as advanced communication and relationship building skills. The ideal candidate will also have a track record of exercising strong judgment and operating independently in complex situations. The Director, Data Analysis, Reporting & Governance will report directly to the Managing Director, Data Governance & Strategy.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Work closely with the Managing Director of Data Governance & Strategy to refine and implement our org-wide cross-functional reporting strategy
  • Clean, structure and analyze cross-functional data for purposes of reporting, analytics and visualizations
  • Design and produce reports that
    • Summarize a cross-section of top-line data on fundamental measures of organizational success,
    • Present information in a way that maximizes insight and action for end users, and
    • Leverage sophisticated technical approaches to enable dramatically enhanced team productivity
  • Develop and utilize vibrant feedback channels to enhance and support these reports
  • Participate in the evolution of the core data analytics tools of the team, with a particular focus on those that enhance automation for the purposes of reporting
  • Support the design and roll-out of a multi-year Data Governance Program to mature our data governance discipline and drive improvements in data quality and security as well as cross-team data integration
  • Lead and execute other cross-functional data and reporting projects as needed, setting the vision and direction and developing project goals, timelines, and measures of success
  • Develop and maintain highly collaborative working relationships across all levels of the organization to build the network and knowledge base necessary for this body of work
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred (with coursework focusing on data analysis and/or statistics)
Skills/Experience: 
  • 4-6 years of experience organizing and managing robust data, conducting analysis, and displaying information in insightful ways
  • Distinctive impact/progression of increasing responsibility in previous work
  • Teach For America staff/alumni preferred but not required

Work Demands

  • Ability to travel to in-person meetings in various U.S. cities 2-3 times/quarter
  • Occasional weekend or evening work is required
  • Work with colleagues who are based all over the country using remote technologies

Skills

  • Strong experience using statistical software packages (i.e. SAS, STATA, R, or similar) to clean, aggregate and analyze data to extract meaning and insights
  • Fluency with sophisticated data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Microsoft Power BI or SAS Analytics) to provide complex information in approachable, digestible bites
  • Advanced data reporting skills using Excel and strong proficiency using Powerpoint to present complex information to a range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, critical consciousness, and ability to work across lines of difference
  • Ability to envision, plan and project-manage multiple complex, collaborative projects simultaneously, leveraging available resources to achieve impeccable follow-through on execution
  • Deep critical thinking and problem solving skills, driven by clear, rigorous logic
  • Ability to both lead in a dynamic environment and be a team player who contributes effectively to the work of others
