Under the supervision of the branch Director of Operations, this position is responsible for the supervision and management of all facets of the Health and Wellness Department at The North Suburban YMCA Branch in accordance with the policies established by the Advisory Board of Directors of the North Suburban Branch and the General Board of Directors of the YMCA of Greater Boston, under the direction of the Executive Director.

Filling the role of Health and Wellness champion for the branch, The Healthy Living Director is required to provide members with resources and support to implement their goals of health and wellness. The concentrations within the department include, but are not limited to, health and wellness programs, personal training, small group training, group exercise programs and chronic disease programs for adults, youth, teens, seniors and special populations. In addition, the Healthy Living Director will supervise and manage the Associate Healthy Living Director, partner with the membership department for on-boarding of new members and is responsible for the maintenance of the fitness equipment, cleanliness of the fitness areas, administration and development of the department budget.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop, implement and oversee all Health and Wellness Programs that reflect the community’s needs and maintain the YMCA’s high standards of quality, safety and character development.
  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate Assistant Health and Wellness Director, Personal Trainers, Group Exercise Instructors, and volunteers.
  • Deliver a comprehensive health, wellness  and membership approach in all programs for children, youth, teens, adults, and special populations.
  • Must understand the relationship of the general public, including Public School System, to the North Suburban Branch  and be able to effectively enhance and cultivate those relationships.
  • Coordinate annual Road Race and special events.
  • Develop and implement annual budgets for  Healthy Living Department and manage agreed upon budgets within operating  guidelines.
  • Responsible for program enrollment, retention, evaluation, payment records, and reporting of records to the Operations Director.
  • Oversee all purchases and maintain department related supplies within budget guidelines and maintain a clean and safe program area.
  • Participate in staff meetings, Board of Director meetings, and professional training as appropriate.
  • Attend appropriate quality team/Cabinet meetings as it relates to Healthy Living.
  • Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA’s mission and goals.
  • Act as a role model and incorporate character development values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility into the daily operation of the fitness department.
  • Participate as a Team Leader in the Annual Community Fundraising Campaign and actively fundraise for the YMCA.
  • Assume other duties deemed necessary by supervisor.

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $48,500.00 - $52,000.00
