The Director of Healthy Living provides leadership for branch programs and staff in the areas of Wellness and Membership The incumbent promotes programs to members and the community at large to meet established budget and revenue goals. The incumbent directs branch program operations ensuring the quality delivery of healthy living services which meets the branch and community needs. The incumbent is a member of the branch management team. The incumbent hires, supervises and trains staff. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provides leadership and direction for a variety of branch healthy living programs and membership services(i.e. fitness, aquatics, active older adults, chronic diseases, etc.). 
  • Promotes, sells and educates staff, members and community participants on the benefits of participating in key healthy living programs to maximize revenue potential and increase member retention. 
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, serves as key contact in organizing and scheduling program registrations. 
  • Manages a high performing staff in the areas of Membership Services, Fitness and Aquatics and ensures the quality delivery of programs and services provided. 
  • Works closely with the Management team on innovative approaches and implements programs, evaluates program results, establishes areas for improvement and develops and implements plans to achieve desired goals and objectives. 
  • Prepares and manages the Wellness and Membership and program budgets to assure revenue and program service goals are achieved. 
  • Recruits, hires, on-boards, trains, develops, evaluates and supervises assigned staff. 
  • Actively engages with members on a daily basis and ensures a high level of customer service which enhances the member, guest and program participant experience and satisfaction. 
  • Active participation in teaching, training and coaching members. The incumbent will lead by example and will be responsible for supporting the front desk when needed and working regularly scheduled hours per week on the fitness floor. 
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Constantly assess the community for needs, opportunities and threats as they pertain to the successful development of Healthy Living programs. 
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events. 
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program. 
  • Creates and schedules all related classes. Responsible for hiring, scheduling and ensuring smooth execution of the group fitness and aquatic class schedule, including coordination of all substitute teaching. 
  • Maintains equipment and facilities. Coordinates and schedules equipment maintenance and repairs. 
  • Lead youth and teen programs relating to healthy living and fitness, including, teen fitness classes, initiatives that reduce the youth obesity epidemic, etc. 
  • Collaborates with other branch leaders on all Diabetes Prevention, Parkinson’s and Live STRONG for the Branch
Educational Background: 
Degree in Health, Science and Recreation or related field. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Prior experience in Healthy Living programs (fitness, aquatics, active older adults, chronic disease, etc.) 
  • Prior supervisory experience ? Demonstrated success promoting and selling programs and activities 
  • Ability to work in highly flexible and rapidly changing work environment 
  • Ability to maintain up to date knowledge of healthy living programs to include member retention, fitness, aquatics, and health and wellness trends. 
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with various groups to achieve a desired end result 
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills 
  • Good organizational skills 
  • Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel 
  • CPR/PR, First Aid, AED, and Oxygen certifications (within 30 days of hire) 
  • Ability to manage programs to a diverse population
