The qualified candidate will possess at a minimum:

The Program Director –Membership directs all aspects of membership for the branch including recruitment of new members, retention of existing members and supervision of assigned staff.  This includes, but is not limited to, developing, planning and implementing new procedures and methods to achieve strategic goals. The primary goal is to build and retain overall membership that increases reach and impact in the community.  

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Serve as a role model to members and YMCA staff and live the mission, vision and values of the YMCA movement.
  • Implements membership strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members.  Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs membership staff and volunteers as needed.  Reviews, provides feedback and evaluates staff performance to ensure they are executing their duties at a high level and following SCFY Membership’s Best Practices.  Develops strategies to coach and motivate staff to achieve individual and department goals.
  • Promotes program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members. Able to effectively tailor communications to the appropriate audience.
  • Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget for membership and takes appropriate action to correct variances, specifically with staffing levels.
  • Ensures proper implementation of front desk procedures. Reviews and updates desk procedures and communicates changes to staff.  Coordinates with the Branch Executive and Corporate office as necessary on financial transactions and membership processing.
  • Organizes membership events at the YMCA and represents the YMCA at community events to promote the YMCA.
  • Prepare and distribute Tour thank you notes, new member welcome letters and new member information packets.  Report member and guest comments, suggestions, complaints, concerns, and problems to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a high-level first impression by a clean, clutter-free, and attractive reception area and lobby.
  • Complete records and reports as required on schedule and submit them to Branch Executive.
  1. Participate in, meet assigned goals and solicit others to participate in fund-raising efforts, specifically the Annual Campaign.
  2. Maintain certifications listed under Certificates and Other Requirements.
  3. Adherence to all policies and procedures of Scott County Family Y.
  4. Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations including knowledge of emergency procedures and the location of emergency equipment.
  5. Regular and timely adherence to respective schedule/meetings.
  6. All other duties as assigned by the Branch Executive. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to stand, sit and walk for at least 4 hours at a time every day.  
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally.  
  • Possess the ability to walk and climb stairs and be capable of navigating through the facility. 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer and, as such, must be able to reach with hands and arms and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. 
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear.  
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.  The noise level in the work environment can vary from quiet to moderate during office hours and moderate to loud during event hours.  
  • This position works in a combined environment of office setting and fitness facility.  
  • This position works a standard work week, but additionally may be required to work evening, weekend, and additional hours to accommodate membership and branch activities and when representing the organization and events.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 

In addition to those noted above, the qualified candidate will possess:

  • Previous supervisory experience in customer service preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.

Required Certifications

  • Must be able to pass background check
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED Certification*
  • Must be able to pass SCFY CCC training and Cash Handling training. 

*Note: If not currently certified, must obtain certification within 30 days of hire. All the above certification training programs are provided by the YMCA staff.
