Aquatics Director

The Aquatic Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations, implementation of the branch aquatic programs, and meeting the aquatic needs of the community. The Aquatics Director will also be responsible for tracking and organizing branch certifications and recertification’s. The Director will ensure a safe, fun area for children and adults to interact and enjoy. This position requires face-to-face leadership in these programs and involves early morning, evening, and weekend responsibilities.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff, contractors and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations including maintenance of accurate records of pool chemical levels and general facility maintenance.
  • Establishes new activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, organizes and schedules program registrations.
  • Manage payroll related transactions and monitor for accuracy and completeness.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Actively participates in branch, department and association staff meetings and/or related trainings.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
  • Attends all staff meetings and required training programs.
  • Other duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor.

  • Office/recreational/pool environment. Intermittent sitting, standing, walking are required.
  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program.
  • Hours will include evening and weekend work.
  • Travel among local branches will be required.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least one year previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Successful clearance of background check.
  • Acquire and maintain the following certifications prior to start date via YMCA, American Red Cross, American Heart Association and American Health and Safety Institute (ASHI):
    • CPRPro/AED (valid 2 years unless otherwise noted)
    • Lifeguarding
  • Requisite Redwoods Online Training Modules (completed prior to start date and repeated annually).
