Nature and Scope:

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the director of Afterschool and Camp will plan, administer and evaluate the afterschool and summer camp departments and supervise staff.  This position is primarily responsible for the design and implementation of the branch afterschool sites and summer/holiday camps.  Also, this position will play a key role in managing the growth and future of afterschool and summer/holiday camp programming.

EFFECT ON END RESULT: 

This position has a primary impact on the overall effectiveness of the sport/summer day camp programs and the success of programs and services to the community. The effectiveness of this position is primarily measured by the sound department administration, the stated satisfaction of staff and members and a sound fiscal position of those departments.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule, supervise, and evaluate the sport/summer day camp department and employees and volunteers.
  • Develop and implement a plan to attract and recruit new members and corporate partnerships.
  • Conduct pilots for new programs; develop plans and manage best practices through engagement of the staff team.
  • Effectively manage budgets; hold staff accountable for high-quality results using a formal process to measure progress.
  • Foster a climate of innovation.
  • Monitor progress towards branch’s goals by running and reviewing all necessary reports.
  • Coordinates marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to the Executive Director on related issues.
  • Collaborate with the Association key departments to lead, coordinate and support implementation of key initiatives related to marketing, social media and communications, human resources and financial development.
  • Serves as a key staff leader to the annual fundraising campaign.
  • Provide leadership to the branch board committee.
  • Maintain athletic fields, gyms, school sites, facilities and eMquipment in accordance with risk management policies as directed.
  • Schedule and maintain facilities and equipment within program areas to the highest level of efficiency.
  • Develop and operate within approved budget guidelines as it relates to each program area.
  • In consultation with the Executive Director, develop long range goals, objectives and priorities for all programs.
  • Stay educated and updated on current issues regarding afterschool and camp programs.
  • Assist in preparation of the annual budget, income and expenses for all related programs.
  • Manage delivery of related programs to exceed YMCA standards and program objectives.  Include Character building Initiatives whenever possible.
  • Maintain branch and association certifications in CPR, Multi Media First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, new Metro Atlanta YMCA staff orientation, branch orientation and Branch Emergency procedures.
  • Participate in membership development and engagement functions.
  • Assist as needed in all aspects of summer camp activities and other duties as assigned at the YMCA.
  • Pass State of Georgia criminal background check

Ergonomics:  Sitting, bending, stooping, standing, 15% repetitive keyboard work, seeing, verbal communications, lift up to 25 pounds.

Educational Background: 
A Bachelor’s degree required in or related field required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Three or more years related experience and training and development of high performing teams.
  • Must have a background in staff team development and relationship management.
  • Seeks, cultivates and supervises volunteers.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Hands on experience with utilizing data to make an informed decisions.
  • Personal commitment to service and hospitality.
  • If internal to the YMCA, must have a minimum YMCA Team Leader certification.
  • Exemplify YMCA ideals, leadership qualities and a professional image.
  • A working knowledge or computers: MS Word, MS Excel and database management.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, problem solve and possess effective time management skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of afterschool and camp program administration.
  • Must have current CPR/AED (can be certified within first 90 days) and obtain any other certifications required for job.
  • Must receive a cleared GCIC/NCIC and a cleared fingerprint check through Bright from the Start.
  • Annual GCIC checks will be conducted before each school year begins.
