The post holder will be responsible for the day to day delivery and efficient operation of Compassion’s developing program focused on the business case for protein diversification and reduction of animal protein purchases. This role sits within the Food Business team and centers on engagement with the corporations to integrate policies and practices that contribute toward to program objective. This includes project and performance management functions of the work stream, as well as the potential to have budgetary oversight and line manage future positions within the diversification and reduction team.
Working with the Head of US Food Business, you will play a central role in further implementing and developing our business strategy of working with US food companies to reduce overall purchasing and/or production of animal products. This includes piloting the program and securing partnerships with leading food companies to further define the corporate “ask”. It also includes ensuring results from the partnerships are defined, measurable and contributing toward our broader organization targets.
You will need to be a highly motivated and enthusiastic people person, capable of inspiring corporations to set and achieve new and challenging goals. This will require a passion and belief in promoting the necessity and value of reducing overall animal production within large scale US or multinational food businesses, in conjunction with an understanding as to how this complements goals around improved farmed animal welfare policies and other wider aims of the organization.
A proven track record of building strong commercial relationships is essential and ideally a track record of managing a Sustainability/Corporate Responsibility program within the retail and/or food and/or ethical supply chain sector, or a strong track record of managing NGO programs and campaigns to commercial organizations.
Primary Responsibilities & Duties
-Manage the pilot phase and development of the diversification and reduction program within the Food Business team
-Manage the functional operation of the diversification and reduction program internally, specifically relating to the business planning and reporting (metrics and goals, impact reporting and board reports) processes
-Adapt strategy in response to a rapidly changing and evolving marketplace, as needed, in order to most effectively reach program goals
-Support the Head of US Food Business in delegated tasks to support strategic priorities and evolution of the US Food Business program
-Work closely with the other key members of the US and global teams to ensure effective and successful delivery of the diversification and reduction program as part of the wider organizational objectives
-Liaise and develop strong working relationships with other third parties, such as other NGOs and investment institutions, as required
-Further develop our business strategy targeting major global food companies across the retailer, manufacturing and food service sectors
-Further develop the team’s presence and engagement strategy in this space, specifically in the US
-Represent the Food Business program at high level corporate and industry events
-Provide creative thinking around resource and ‘toolkit’ development to provide a varied, targeted and professional service to corporate partners
-Communicate both internally and externally to a wide variety of stakeholders, and at various key meetings, conferences, and media opportunities
-Further develop the role building on your personal strengths, program needs and wider organizational direction
-Proven track record of developing and implementing business or CSR strategy in a corporate or NGO environment
-Background in account and / or relationship management skills
-Proven track record of engaging and influencing a range of stakeholders to action
-High level project management experience, preferably within in the corporate and/or non-profit sectors, to successfully deliver program aims
-Experience of high level reporting systems and processes, providing feedback to a range of stakeholders from Senior -Management to Board of Trustees to external funding partners
-Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and a confident ability for compelling oral presentation at meetings and conferences, as well as with the media
-Ability to engage effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels, including food companies, consumers, NGOs and other stakeholders
-Strong knowledge or experience of working within the corporate food industry is desirable, particularly in areas such as supply chain management, sustainability or corporate social responsibility
-Demonstrable knowledge of sales, marketing or communications disciplines
-Strong strategic planning skills
-Excellent networking and facilitation skills
-Able to develop and implement recommendations in support of goals
-Able to adapt and pivot strategy and approach in order to most effectively and efficiently achieve goals
-Position requires 25 - 40% travel
