Under the direction of the Program Operations Director, the Aquatic Director is responsible for the management and operation of the SWC YMCA’s aquatics programs: pool and lifeguard schedules, YMCA swim lesson programming, competitive swim team and masters swim team; outreach programming and water safety, Red Cross certifications, and water fitness classes.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfil YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
- Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations.
- Participate in rotation of Director on Duty shifts and serve in a lead or supporting role in Annual Campaign.
- Conducts in-service training for both lifeguards and swim instructors.
- Creates and schedules swim classes, water fitness classes, and oversees competitive swim team.
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
- Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
- Must role mode YMCA core characters of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring in all aspects of job and relationships with staff, members, and program participants.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent.
Skills/Experience:
- Three to five years related experience in aquatics preferred.
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must have current Lifeguard, Aquatic Swim Instructor and CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
- Ability to manage multiple program areas and tasks within the aquatic program.
- Must possess outstanding organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse group of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- This is non-traditional work week position and must be available to work occasional weekends, some early mornings and evenings.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $30,000.00 - $33,000.00
