The Outreach Specialist is primarily responsible for supporting the Program Director via coordination and presentation of educational programs in the community, provision of support and assistance to individuals with Alzheimer's disease and their family, and overseeing the provision of caregiver or early stage support groups in counties assigned to their geographic area. The Outreach Specialist also provides information to the Executive Director as needed.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Coordinates and delivers educational activities for families, persons diagnosed with Alzheimer's and related diseases, health care professionals, community organizations and the general public.
- Assists in outreach efforts and builds working relationships with physicians, medical systems, service providers, care facilities and other stakeholders who collaborate on Association initiatives.
- Responds to information and referral requests using established resources and tools. Follows the helpline protocol in connecting individuals to the National office to be referred to appropriate services. Provides follow up services to individuals as appropriate
- Conducts care consultations with care providers and family members when referred by the helpline or when family members request this service directly.
- Assists staff in assigned territory to ensure successful implementation of the chapter's programs and services.
- Promotes opportunities for others to partner with the Alzheimer's Association through recruitment of advocates and/or ambassadors, referrals to Trial Match, volunteer opportunities and other organizational initiatives.
- Works to assure timely and effective public relations and marketing of educational support services and programs in assigned service area.
- Remains knowledgeable and current in information related to Alzheimer's and related diseases as well as national, state, and local initiatives that affect the targeted population.
- Provides mentoring, training, and assistance in the recruitment and retention of volunteers, with the intention of building out a more vibrant volunteer-driven program in the areas of program education delivery and support groups.
- Recruits, trains and manages community educators to deliver programs in service region.
- Oversees maintenance of program volunteer hour tracking for volunteers operating out of same regional office.
- Participates in planning and provision of ongoing and annual volunteer recognition events.
- Supports advocacy efforts on both the state and federal level. Works with staff to assure that requirements for grant-funded programs and services in the assigned territory are met.
- Ensures new community resources and related events are directed to alz.org/CRF and/or local event calendars.
- Maintains accurate records of program and event participation and other metrics.
- Manages activities within budgeted parameters.
- Fully participates in and promotes all fundraising initiatives for the chapter.
- Works with the program team and Marketing Manager to ensure uniformity of materials and presentation content.
- Supports the Program and Executive Directors as requested.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in health care related field; development, nursing, gerontology, social work or related.
Skills/Experience:
- Experience in guidance e, counseling, coaching and supporting individuals and their families.
- Understanding of the disease process and intervention options for caregivers.
- Commitment to the mission of the Alzheimer's Association.
- Knowledge of community resources.
- Experience in volunteer management and support.
- Ability to work with a wide range of people including persons with dementia, family and professional caregivers, corporate partners, foundation staff, volunteers, legislators and public policy officials.
- Strong organizational skills to plan, implement and evaluate program initiatives.
- Effective written and oral communication skills; strong public speaking skills.
- Ability to listen effectively.
- Good decision-making skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products, especially Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Google applications; willing and able to perform all training required for personal assignment for organizational CRM system, Personify360.
- Ability to work independently.
- Presents self in professional manner.
- Must have a valid driver's license and a willingness to use personal vehicle in the course of employment. Must show proof of automobile insurance.
