AARP is hiring a Community Specialist who will be responsible for the execution and implementation of AARP’s social content calendar and social media copywriting on behalf of the brand. Under the guidance of the Senior Community Manager and Director of Social, they will work with the Social Strategists and Social Marketing Senior Advisor to ensure maximum exposure for content on AARP’s social platforms including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram.

The Community Specialist will be primarily responsible for managing the social media calendar to ensure AARP’s organizational priorities are appropriately represented across AARP’s social platforms.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Community Manager will be responsible for all scheduling, copywriting, and publishing duties for social media content on behalf of the brand.

The position’s chief responsibilities include:

  • Populating the social media calendar for AARP’s brand profiles on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram
  • Maintaining the AARP brand voice on established and emerging social platforms
  • Maintaining the AARP Social Editorial Calendar
  • Draft social copy that effectively communicates and engages AARP’s audience across multiple platforms
  • Staying current on industry trends and technological developments all while applying the best thinking and practices to AARP’s social communication
Educational Background: 
Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree, (advanced degree preferred) in marketing communications or a related discipline
Skills/Experience: 

2+years of experience in managing social media platforms for a variety of clients at an agency or large, complex organization including copywriting, publishing, calendar management, and paid media.

Requirements include:

  • Demonstrate a strong ability to develop and manage social content calendars for multiple stakeholders and audiences
  • Expertise in social media copywriting for large organizations and/or brands
  • Possess strong client service orientation and account management skills
  • Demonstrate excellent understanding of, and ability to work within, organizational politics, networks, and a matrix management system
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills (e.g. listening, negotiating, facilitating, managing conflict, flexibility.)
  • Demonstrate strong working knowledge and understanding of social communications platforms, blogs, microblogs, mobile, user-generated sites, etc
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to quality and accuracy – strong attention to detail
  • The right candidate will have an ability to creatively problem solve, manage, train and collaborate with a multi-disciplined team. They will be detail orientated, but have an ability to see the bigger picture.
  • These efforts will require knowledge and mastery of third-party scheduling tools such as Sprinklr, Hootsuite and Spredfast and third-party project management tools including Air Table and Asana.
