The Early Childhood and Preschool Director is responsible for the overall planning, development, staffing, training and organization of the preschool department, and a budget of $425,000 annually. The Director will oversee all aspects of a 62 student on-site Preschool. The Director will be asked to manage, develop and train up to 6 full-time staff. The Director will also help design and administer a section of Campaign for Youth & Family and any Special Events at the Branch that Child Care and Education Department is involved with. It is the responsibility of the Director to assure program quality and safety for all youth participants and their families along with the research, development and promotion of all above program areas.
Fiscal Management
- Responsible for the development, implementation and corrective action of the preschool budget.
- Responsible for monthly variances reports of the above mentioned program area.
- Responsible for achieving revenue and expense targets for department.
- Responsible for the implementation of the financial assistance program for the above programs.
- Ensures that third party pays stay current.
- Reviews department AR report weekly and takes immediate corrective action on participants more than sixty days in arrears.
- Responsible for the reconciliation of the monthly department Account Receivables.
- Responsible for the implementation of Financial Assistance funds for the departments.
Volunteer Development
- Serves as a staff Liaison for the Program Committee.
- Responsible for recruitment of Committee Volunteers.
Financial Development
- Serves as a Division Leader of the Annual Campaign for Youth and Families.
- Responsible for recruitment and training of Campaign volunteers to ensure achievement of dollar goal.
- Develop and conducts department fundraisers.
Personnel Management
- Responsible for the recruitment, training, supervision and evaluation of all department staff.
- Responsible for annual development of self-training plan in accordance with National YMCA training model.
- Ensures that all staff adheres to Association and Branch polies and procedures, with special attention paid to HR requirements. All staff exhibits the six pillars of character and conducts themselves at all times as pillars of character.
- Attend weekly branch management meetings.
- Give Leadership when appropriate in Association PMT’s. Attend Monthly Childcare PMT.
- Responsible for implementation of Strategic Plan objectives as assigned.
Program Management
- Ensures that all state laws, regulations and licensing requirements are met for the After School Childcare Department.
- Ensures all California State Childcare Licensing documentation is current and all reports are completed within the allowed timeframe.
- Ensures ACA for Summer Day Camp regulations are met (if required).
- Ensures that program curriculum is current and cutting edge.
- Ensures that all department staff required certifications are maintained and up to date.
- Responsible for developing and implementing l program evaluations that measures quality and parent satisfaction and results shared with Associate Executive Director and Program Committee.
- Responsible for the internal and external promotion of the Preschool program.
- Responsible for acquiring and maintaining required records of participants.
- Solves problems and concerns quickly and professionally.
- Collaborates with outside agencies when appropriate.
- Maintains participant registrations in Active, including cancellations, changes, scholarships and third party funding.
- Maintains emergency contact information on all program participants.
- Empathetically listen and communicate understanding, build relationships to create small communities and provide staff with feedback, coaching, guidance and support.
Facility Management
- Ensures that all program areas are clean and well maintained.
- Daily inspects department for maintenance and safety issues. Reports issues to Facility Director and immediate supervisor.
- Responsible for implementation of the safety program for the department.
- Responsible for conducting department safety drills.
- Serves as Director on Duty and Director on Call.

- The operational and financial success of the Youth Programs at the Santa Barbara Family YMCA.
- At least 3 years of administrative experience in Preschool and or Childcare
- Previous experience working in a YMCA Child Care Program or similar organization overseeing child development, program implementation, and supervision of staff.
- Knowledge of California State Community Licensing regulations
- California Adult, Infant, and Child CPR and First Aid Certifications
- Complete necessary trainings under Leadership Competency Model to fulfill “Leader” level
