DIAL is a new global alliance to enable the digital ecosystem to deliver greater scale, efficiency and social impact as it creates more inclusive digital economies in emerging markets. Working with partners, DIAL will generate evidence of what works through field-based projects, distil insights and tools to promote scale-up and replication, and provide mechanisms for co-investment throughout the ecosystem. DIAL is hosted by the United Nations Foundation, and the team is based in Washington, D.C.

DIAL is seeking a Fellow ready to contribute to its Monitoring and Evaluation work. The Fellow would assist in some of a range of tasks such as implementing systems for DIAL-wide data management and reporting, following up on specific project-level M&E needs such as surveys, data analysis, research projects, and internal learning exercises, or conducting research on specific ICT4D and M&E topics.  This position and the M&E department works closely with the Senior Director of Business Operations, the programmatic teams, and the Insights and Impact team, which focuses on research and advocacy in the digital development sector.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Support implementation of M&E plans for initiatives and projects, including development of tools, collecting and analyzing data, etc.
  • Conduct internal learning exercises such as regular interviews, after action reviews, etc.
  • Update tracking systems such as results framework tracker and M&E indicator plans with available data
  • Research projects as needed.
  • Help monitor secondary data sources for important updates to areas of interest to DIAL (e.g., access rates, gender issues, regulatory changes, etc.)
  • Additional support tasks as needed

Specific Deliverables

  • Develop data collection tools and input templates as need for initiative or project M&E plans
  • Conduct interviews with DIAL staff as part of a quarterly review of experiential learning and changes (see Director of IE and Senior Director of Insights and Impact).
  • Help update tracking systems in Smartsheet (or other tools) for reporting
  • Participate in DIAL Team Meetings.
  • Assist with DIAL’s co-sponsorship of the MERL Tech London conference (correspondence, review, materials set-up, etc.).
  • Secondary data review and sharing format.
Educational Background: 
Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a graduate degree program or have graduated within the past year from a graduate degree program
Skills/Experience: 
  • Strong interest in and some exposure to research and M&E
  • Familiarity with mobile data collection formats (ODK, Magpie, SurveyCTO, etc.)
  • Interest in M&E and the ICT4D sector.
  • Ability to work from Washington, DC or Portland office, or strong internet connectivity

The duration of the Fellowship, Digital Impact Alliance is 10 weeks.
