Director of Donor Systems

The Director of Donor Systems will direct a department responsible for gift processing and data management for the entire Development unit, including management of an active constituent database of more than 500,000 donors.  This position will oversee the development of standards and best practices that will ensure data integrity within Salesforce.  This position will lead the systems team in liaising, as appropriate, with a variety of other internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to the Finance, CRM, IT groups, as well as our partners at Salesforce, specialty consultants, and other units within Development.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs the Assistant Director and a team of 5 professionals responsible for all financial data integrity and gift processing for NRDC, including membership, major gifts, and foundations.
  • Directs an Assistant Director and a team of 3 professionals responsible for data architecture, management, and reporting.
  • Leads efforts to create and sustain regular and robust data integrity processes.
  • Serves as primary liaison with a cross-functional CRM team to establish and implement appropriate data standards, and develop new tools within Salesforce to meet the needs of NRDC’s growing development unit.
  • Liaises with colleagues in Finance and other departments to ensure data management practices are in accord with other internal systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Management:

The Director will operate in a leadership role in the Development Department, and as such will be expected to advance the department’s goal of building a strategic and highly successful development program that affirms NRDC’s mission and supports its ongoing programmatic successes and future growth.

  • Will manage two Assistant Directors and their respective teams.
  • Will set forth goals and performance expectations and hold team accountable.
  • Will address opportunities for career growth and knowledge building on team.
  • Will actively address performance issues.
  • Will work with consultants on implementation of database conversion and extensions as needed.

Finally, since the Salesforce product will be new to NRDC, it is anticipated that the Donor Systems group, in collaboration with the CRM team, will develop training opportunities for all users and especially power users, to ensure that we maximize the power of this new tool.

Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 8+ years direct experienced preferred.
  • High level management experience required.
  • CRM database experience required, Salesforce experience strongly preferred.
  • Solid understanding of the functions, structures, and operations of a professional development office is required.
  • Strong strategic planning and project management skills
  • Thorough knowledge of nonprofit finance as it relates to fundraising tracking and reporting.
  • Systems-based thinking skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with a wide range of internal and external constituents.
  • Advanced customer-service skills and commitment to client focus.
