Natural Resources Defense Council is seeking a Managing Multimedia Editor for Video in the NYC area. This is a hands-on position for experienced professionals. We’re looking for proven visual leader who can run a small team of video editors and producers, coordinate and track all aspects of video productions and manage relationships with internal and external partners. The qualified candidate must also have the necessary skills to edit, shoot and produce video content for social media, editorial and advocacy websites and presentations.
Knowledge of NRDC’s core missions is a must and the successful candidate must have a broad knowledge and curiosity about environmental justice and news. The multimedia team supports all sections of the organization by producing compelling visual content daily to advance NRDC’s mission to safeguard the Earth, its people, its plants and animals, and the natural systems on which all life depends.
This position isn’t limited to video production and the successful candidate could be involved in art directing animations and producing still photography shoots. This individual should have experience developing budgets, hiring freelance production crews, cameramen and editors. A working knowledge of contracts for a variety of projects is a plus. An innovative spirit, passion for digital media, and the ability to solve problems independently in a fast-paced environment is a must.
This editorial communications position reports directly to the Multimedia Director.
- Manage a small team of freelance and staff video editors. This includes setting daily duties and expectations, giving direction, providing feedback, documenting and rating performance, nurturing top performers and coaching for improvement.
- Produce long and short form video content from on-location productions to text-on-video social cuts.
- Coordinate and produce multimedia shoots: execute project estimates and oversee budgets, manage scope of project, and assemble talent and crew.
- Research, source and license video for editorial content.
- Manage and execute basic and complex video, audio, color correction and format conversion. Identify original and intelligent story telling opportunities and assemble main story lines for videos.
- Manage and participate in the process of visual content creation from ideation to publication, making sure that content is delivered on time and within budget.
- Research, source and license video and photo content to be used as b-roll from stock agencies, wire services and private individuals for social readable videos.
- Negotiate rates and hire creative personnel for short term projects and longer-term contracts.
- Conceptualize and communicate your creative vision to personnel inside and outside the organization.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of experience as a video editor or producer at an agency, news website or non-for-profit, with 2 or more of those years in a leadership position.
- A portfolio that demonstrates a wide variety of engaging video story telling techniques.
- Proven track record of working cross departmentally throughout a complex organization.
- Expert in Adobe Premier, Adobe Creative Suite and Cinema Cameras.
- Experience with animation/motion graphics a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple daily and long-term projects simultaneously utilizing project management tools and software
- Organized self-starter but able to work in a collaborative team environment.
- Responsive and quick thinking in rapid paced environments.
- Have a firm understanding of typography, branding, layout and design for print, digital and social platforms.
- Understand and use social media platforms and tools including, but not limited to Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
- Connections within the creative industry including production houses, freelancers, editors, illustrators, and videographers, photographers and stylists.
