Executive Director

The Cleveland Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio) is seeking a full-time Executive Director.

 

Job Description:

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for overseeing staff, programs, fund development, capacity building and execution of CAIR’s mission and vision.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Leadership & Management

  • Develop, coach, and lead a high-performing, values-driven, and results-oriented team
  • Engage and energize volunteers, Board members, event committees, partner organizations, and funders in support of CAIR’s vision and mission
  • Partner with stakeholders to facilitate ongoing strategic planning with a focus on capacity building and community impact
  • Set annual priorities and develop effective systems to monitor progress and advance programmatic excellence
  • Oversee financial management within the approved budget and ensure healthy financials
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and with organizational policies

 

Fund Development & Stewardship

  • Design and enact strategic fund-development plans to diversify and increase funding streams
  • Oversee relationships with key funding sources and motivate stakeholders to achieve development goals
  • Build staff capacity to support and implement donor-centered fund development and stewardship
  • Establish ongoing training in development best practices for the Board, staff, and volunteers

 

Public Relations, Communications, & Community Engagement

  • Strengthen all aspects of communications from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating compelling social change messaging and a strong brand
  • Enhance relationships and develop new strategic partnerships with diverse stakeholders including mosques, community-based organizations, and interfaith leaders through coalition building
  • Develop a proactive, strategic communications plan that will highlight Muslim American voices in the narrative landscape of the social justice movement
  • Meet with local, state, and federal elected officials to advocate on key issues impacting all Ohioans
  • Develop and implement community education and civic engagement strategies with a focus on youth
  • Foster collaborative programming grounded in a human rights and social justice framework that centers the experiences of marginalized communities
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree (required)
Master's degree (preferred) in nonprofit management or related field, MBA, or J.D.
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least 3-5 years of management experience, preferably in a nonprofit
  • Familiarity with social justice issues impacting the Muslim community and a strong commitment to civil rights and CAIR's mission
  • Demonstrated leadership, personnel management, and time management abilities
  • Track record of success in developing or improving organizational capacity
  • Experience with fiscal management, including program budgeting and cash flow analysis
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in organizational settings
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Multilingual skills are a plus (in languages such as Arabic, Urdu, Uzbek, Somali, etc.)
  • Experience working with people from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, and innovative approach to business development
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
