National Louis University invites applicants for the Chair of the Counseling Program in Illinois. This is a full-time, twelve-month, administrative faculty position in the professional-practice track and it can be based out of our Chicago or Wheeling campuses. The position carries administrative and teaching responsibilities. The rank will be determined based on the successful candidate’s credentials and experience.

The chair of the counseling program in Illinois will lead a CACREP accredited program and serve as the program representative to a range of internal and external stakeholders. The program is offered using multiple instructional modalities and offered at multiple locations in the Chicago area. The Program Chair, in partnership with the Dean and the Provost will enact the university’s strategic plan and set the vision for the Illinois counseling program(s). The chair will work in close collaboration with the Florida counseling programs to achieve academic excellence, curriculum alignment and operational efficiency.

The Program Chair will lead and champion the program and will manage the planning and the various administrative tasks. She/he will partner with enrollment to recruit students, oversee student success, lead accreditation and assessment, build strong partnerships with the community and manage faculty hiring, mentoring and evaluation.

Areas of Responsibility: 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work collaboratively with the Dean, the college programs and NLU Florida Counseling Programs.
• Provide curricular oversight to ensure program compliance with CACREP standards and other regulatory requirements.
• Lead the program assessment process and conduct periodic program review.
• Manage departmental offerings to meet student needs to progress in the program, efficient scheduling and program compliance.
• Support various instructional modalities.
• Collaborate with the dean to prepare program budget and manage the program expenditures.
• Support faculty’s effort to seek external funding and manage grants.
• Manage the program special facilities (labs) and technical equipment.
• Partner with the enrollment team to prepare program material, present at open houses and support meeting enrollment goals.
• Be a student advocate and work with student success team to ensure exceptional students experience. Respond to their concerns and petitions.
• Ensure academic rigor and the highest quality of training to students. Monitor student progress, retention and graduation rates, as well as successful licensure and employment rates.
• Lead faculty hiring, development and evaluation.
• Manage the administrative responsibilities for the program, supervise and evaluate support staff.
• Manage faculty-teaching loads, advising and service activities to ensure equity, efficiency and transparency.
• Contribute to and support scholarship, professional practice and community engagement.
• Work effectively with external advisory board to strengthen the program and align student training with employment needs.
• Ensure that faculty are fully engaged in program and college activities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Educational Background: 
Doctoral Degree Required
Skills/Experience: 

• Record of teaching excellence and achievements in service, scholarship and professional practice
• Evidence of effective supervision competencies
• Appropriate professional memberships
• Evidence of professionalism in working with diverse populations
• Commitment to experientially based education
• Evidence of knowledge and experience teaching online courses and using technology in teaching
• Must meet CACREP Core Faculty standards through an earned research or practitioner doctorate (PhD or EdD) in Counselor Education and Supervision or closely related field (from a CACREP-accredited program) required
• Current licensure as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and/or Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Counselor endorsement in Illinois. Candidates who hold both credentials are especially encouraged to apply
• Minimum of five years of experience in clinical mental health counseling and or/school counseling

 

Preferred Qualifications:
• Ability to teach in two or more of the eight (8) CACREP areas
• Experience in CACREP re-accreditation process and/or CACREP accredited program administration
