The Department of Global Health seeks a Fellow to focus on M&E support for the newborn health team in Washington, DC. The Newborn Health in Humanitarian Settings Field Guide was piloted in South Sudan and Somalia to test the feasibility and effectiveness of these newborn interventions in protracted emergency settings. Four years of data on essential newborn care and newborn referral pathways will be available by Summer 2019 and the fellow will be expected to support Save the Children and CDC with data analysis and preparations for the planned manuscripts. Additionally, the toolkit associated with the Field Guide will need updated and revised based on the initial implementation in various emergency responses.
- Support the newborn health in emergencies team with literature reviews; organizing, compiling, and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data; and drafting of manuscripts from the newborn health study conducted in Somalia
- Evaluate the existing toolkit associated with the Newborn Health in Humanitarian Settings Field Guide for completeness and utility and make updates and revisions as necessary
- Any other reasonable duty as related to the roll out of the Newborn Health in Humanitarian Settings Field Guide and associated 5-year newborn health in emergencies strategy.
- Coursework and/or experience in program planning, research design, data collection, data analysis
- Coursework and/or experience in data entry and analysis software (STATA, SPSS, SAS, etc.)
- Prior experience working in an international development settings and a desire to work in and experience humanitarian settings is preferred.
- Prior experience with training, tool development and research writing
- Prior experience conducting research in a field setting
- Fluent in English with strong verbal and writing skills is required. Proficiency in French is desired.
- Independent problem-solver and decision-maker.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; detail oriented.
- Possess strong written skills, solid interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Eligible to work in the U.S.
- To be classified as a fellow: an individual must be enrolled in a relevant graduate or post-graduate academic program and able to receive some form of credit from his/her college or institution. (Minimum requirement is a letter of support and documentation is required only after a fellowship is offered.)
