The Summer Humanitarian Relief and Disaster Response Intern will gain exposure to and experience in the humanitarian response activities of a global relief to development organization. They will gain a broad understanding of humanitarian program development and the programmatic and operational issues related to responding to the needs of conflict and natural disaster-affected populations, including displaced and refugee populations. Additionally, interns will have opportunities through the life of the internship to learn about the work being done across Save the Children related to Health, Education, Livelihoods, and Child Protection in development and humanitarian settings, and how food and cash are being used in emergency response programming to effectively meet urgent needs.
Candidate will perform a range of activities as a member of the SCUS Department of Humanitarian Response (DHR) in support of fundraising, improved emergency response capacity, and award management to address the needs of children and families affected by conflict and/or natural disaster.
The Humanitarian Relief and Disaster Response intern will support the daily operations of the SCUS Department of Humanitarian Response team and take on specific projects as needed. Interns will be selected to support our donor account and technical teams, including USAID/OFDA, the World Food Programme, Humanitarian Surge capacity, and Disaster Risk Reduction/Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL). Responsibilities depend on specific needs, including award management, materials preparation, proposal development, donor reporting, data analysis, and research. Specific tasks assigned to current/previous interns include:
- Develop marketing and communication materials for programs
- Maintain various databases and knowledge management tools
- Work with countries offices on proposal development and reporting
- Developing webinars to train country offices on donor engagement and award management
- Maintaining and updating internal web pages
- Develop spreadsheets/trackers and conduct portfolio analysis
- Strong computer, writing and research skills
- Interest in emergency response activities and modalities related to rapid onset and chronic emergency responses, and in the well-being of children and families in crisis.
- Possess solid interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
- Must be eligible to intern or volunteer in the U.S.
- To be classified as an intern: (Minimum requirement is a letter of support and documentation is required only after an internship is offered.)
- Any individual who is not a student or able to receive credit may apply for an internship, but will be classified as a skilled volunteer, not as an intern.
