The Public Policy & Advocacy (PPA) department is looking for a student to serve as a Global Development Policy & Advocacy Intern. This individual will report directly to the public policy and advocacy team in DC. S/he will assist in daily activities and, with guidance from staff, work on a variety of projects related to global health, education, child protection, and food security policy and advocacy.
As an intern or skilled volunteer, you will have the opportunity to network with other Save the Children interns, volunteers and employees and participate in learning sessions about various topics spanning the breadth of Save the Children's work. Through this experience, you will gain a greater understanding about how the international development community intersects with the private sector. You will also gain transferable skills that are applicable to a variety of roles, particularly in the non-profit industry, marketing, sales, and client services.
- Support the policy team by conducting research, maintaining databases, taking meeting minutes for internal and external meetings, and creating fact sheets
- Contribute to PPA’s work on Save the Children’s Every Last Child campaign
- Support event-planning, such as congressional briefings, in-district meetings and events, and advocacy trainings
- Support Save the Children’s global health, education, child protection, and food security agendas via outreach to congressional offices
- Support Save the Children’s advocacy work on foreign assistance appropriations
- Attend events, hearings, and briefings to represent Save the Children
- Attend Congressional hearings and briefings as well as NGO coalition working group meetings
- Manage communication among staff and the rest of the agency via various internal communication outlets
- Provide administrative support as needed (scanning, copying, organizing, mailing, etc.)
- As needed, provide support on fundraising projects and proposals for the department
- Attend internal meetings covering Save the Children’s domestic and global programs
- Other duties as needed
- We are looking for someone who has a demonstrated interest in public policy, advocacy, international organizations, and/or international development
- Hill experience a plus
- Possess strong written skills, solid interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Eligible to work in the U.S.
- To be classified as an intern: (Minimum requirement is a letter of support and documentation is required only after an internship offer is accepted.)
- An individual who is not enrolled as a student or able to receive credit from their institution may apply to an internship, however will be classified as a skilled volunteer, not as an intern.
