Summer Financial Management Intern (ITS)

The Intern reports directly to the Director, IT Financial Management. The Intern will provide financial analysis in support of financial management and budgeting activities across ITS. The Intern will also provide ad-hoc analysis for the execution of financial management processes, business case proposals for new technology capabilities, and ensuring ITS spending is aligned with business objectives.

The Intern is expected to demonstrate moderate technical expertise in financial management and reporting. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Coordinate ITS budgeting/accounting/planning with ITS management to understand multi-year activities and investments.
  • Evaluate the financial implications of providing ITS services and solutions to enable efficient budget management and ensure ITS spending is properly aligned with business objectives. 
  • Perform financial analyses of key business initiatives and strategic objectives.
  • Assist with the development of formal business cases and ROI analysis.
  • Perform budgeting, forecasting, planning and variance review activities.
  • Seek to improve financial analysis and forecasting methodologies and performance reporting requirements.
  • Provide key input to ITS Leadership on business decisions relating to identified issues or trends.
  • Work in partnership with ITS management on initiatives related to IT financial management and reporting to continuously improve policies, standards and procedures by anticipating issues, providing advice and sharing knowledge and best practices.
  • Communicate regularly with functional and IT leaders to ensure enterprise alignment and support.
Educational Background: 
Interns must be currently enrolled in a degreed program at an accredited college or university; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post doctorate students.   
Skills/Experience: 
  • AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers. 
  • This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program. 
Compensation/Benefits: 

Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
