Candidate will support new business development, data visualization and communication, and capacity building for the Child Protection team. The fellow will help improve access to, and understanding of, the most up to date evidence and best practices that will enable the team to design the most effective programs for children and families. The fellow will be a key contributor to championing child protection work with colleagues, donors, and other stakeholders. The geographic focus of the work is likely to be Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, but this is subject to change based on opportunities that arise in the summer. There will be ample brown bags, collaborations, and learning circles for the fellow to network and become familiar with the work performed across Save the Children’s programs in Health, Education, Livelihoods, and Humanitarian Response.
The Child Protection fellow will:
- Gain experience for how to use theory, policy, and evidence to support the design of effective programming
- Learn best practices in data analysis and data visualization to tell a compelling story of our work
- Gain a deeper understanding of the intersection of child protection and gender inequality
- Become familiar with how a large international NGO manages new business development process
The Child Protection fellow’s responsibilities are designed to build on each other and link theoretical with on the ground programming reality. The individual will work closely with all technical members of the Child Protection team and report directly to the Director of Violence Prevention and Response to carry out the following activities:
- Develop annotated bibliographies on selected technical topics (early childhood development for HIV-exposed children, psychosocial interventions, and protection/ empowerment of adolescent girls)
- Conduct analysis for program recommendations based on annotated bibliographies
- Write country profiles that can be used for new business development
- Collaborate with field teams to create data dashboards or other communication briefers that showcase program achievements and results for children
- Contribute to the roll-out of gender analysis training for child protection team
- Support child protection team as requested with new business development related tasks
- Other activities may be identified based on the strengths and interests of the individual
- Experience and/ or interest in child protection, violence, or gender equality
- Demonstrable experience in research and analysis of complex social issues
- Strong oral and written communications skills (English is required, French is desirable)
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work across a variety of cultures and also with remote team members
- Ability to lead on tasks independently with keen attention to detail
- Possess strong written skills, solid interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.

- To be classified as a fellow: an individual must be enrolled in a relevant graduate or post-graduate academic program and able to receive some form of credit from his/her college or institution. (Minimum requirement is a letter of support and documentation is required only after a fellowship is offered.)
