Save the Children serves vulnerable children around the globe, including the United States where nearly 15 million children are living in poverty. Our U.S. Programs & Advocacy (USPA) division partners with low-income, rural communities across the nation to ensure that underserved children are prepared for school by the time they begin kindergarten and are achieving grade level proficiency in math and reading by the end of third grade. USPA has a Resource Development team (USPA RD) that is dedicated to raising private and public funds for Save the Children’s early childhood education, school-age, and protection programs in the U.S.

The Resource Development (RD) intern will provide fundraising support to the USPA RD team. This includes researching and identifying potential funding opportunities, writing reports and proposals, and providing administrative support on day-to-day operational functions, special projects and the completion of governmental grant applications. In addition to supporting public and private fundraising efforts, this position plays a vital liaison role between the USPA RD team and other departments within Save the Children to encourage and increase opportunities for cross-collaboration.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Private Fundraising Support

  • Research and identify individual, foundation and corporate prospects; rate and prioritize prospects in terms of inclination and capacity to give; propose cultivation and stewardship strategies in collaboration with USPA RD colleagues;
  • Develop content for LOIs, proposals, reports, and other donor communications;
  • Liaise with Save the Children’s other Resource Development teams (Individual Philanthropy Group, Corporate Partnerships, and Strategic Foundation Partnerships, collectively “Agency RD teams”) to maintain close working relationships and ensure strong knowledge management between the fundraising teams.

Public Fundraising Support

  • Provide assistance with gathering and analyzing information for specific community needs assessments, including designing and analyzing stakeholder surveys;
  • Research, compile and summarize data and information from various sources for use in proposal narratives;
  • Provide writing support on proposals, including developing or updating language as needed.

Administration & Special Projects

  • Provide support as requested for special projects, such as preparation for donor meetings.
Educational Background: 
Must be an actively enrolled undergraduate student or have graduated within 6 months of start date
Skills/Experience: 
  • Possess strong written skills, solid interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Currently eligible to work in the U.S.
