Save the Children Action Network (SCAN), Save the Children’s political advocacy arm, is seeking a fall intern to support our advocacy campaigns by providing research and special project support to our State and National Campaigns and Public Affairs and Policy teams.Founded in 2014, SCAN is building bipartisan will and voter support to make sure every child in the U.S. has access to high-quality early learning and to protect the world’s most vulnerable children. We work at the federal level, as well as in about a handful of targeted states, to support policies and programs that benefit kids.
Through this experience, you will gain a greater understanding about how grassroots mobilization, communications and government relations combine to create meaningful policy change.
The intern will work to support multiple staff and projects within SCAN to better understand how each team member contributes to our overall goal of moving the needle on issues affecting children. The intern will also support the planning and logistics leadign up to the 2020 Save the Children & Save the Children Action Network Advocacy Summit in April.
As a political advocacy organization, SCAN's work is dependent on the political environment and must remain flexible to respond quickly to new developments. The intern will gain experience in public policy, communications, grassroots mobilization and more!
Specific responsibilities may include:
- Supporting planning and logistics for the 2020 Save the Children & Save the Children Action Network Advocacy Summit April 26-28
- Researching elected officials, legislation and coalition partners that support our policy priorities
- Supporting state mobilization efforts through event planning, campus outreach and grassroots research to identify opportunities for volunteers to engage with candidates and election officials
- Providing data support for online engagement plans
- Attending congressional briefings, coalition events and more
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Currently eligible to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications
- Interest in early childhood education in the U.S. and humanitarian aid/international development
- Ability to excel in a flexible, fast-paced environment
- Experience with political campaigns and/or grassroots organizing a plus
- Strong written skills, solid interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team.
