Disability inclusion is a priority in Save the Children’s 2019-2021 strategy, and over the past year our international program department has been engaging to support the improvements of accessibility of our workplace, as well as to engage with the disability rights movement in the countries where we work to address the needs of children with disabilities.

The Disability Inclusion Fellow will provide technical management of activities designed to increase the capacity of Save the Children’s international Programs staff, who support development and humanitarian programming in 120 countries.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Assist with the development of capacity statements for use in business development and fund raising, through the review of available documents related to disability inclusion across Save the Children’s international programming – Global Disability Inclusion Working Group 2019-2021 strategy and workplan; disability inclusion in country strategic plans
  • Support the development of a Disability Inclusion resource library for the International Programs department 
  • Work with the Associate Vice President of Program Quality and Impact as well as focal points for disability inclusion in our thematic areas (health, education, child protection) to organize and implement capacity building for staff who work on international proposals and/or programming that aims to be disability inclusive 
  • In coordination with the Global Disability Inclusion Working Group, conduct outreach and build relationships with Disabled People’s Organizations whose partnership can advance Save the Children’s approach to disability inclusion (
Educational Background: 
Must be an actively enrolled undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate student or have graduated within 6 months of start date.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience in disability inclusion in international development, in one of the following sectors: health, youth employment, inclusive education, child protection.
  • Academic focus on international development in either development or humanitarian settings, in a thematic or geographic area in which Save the Children works.
  • Possess strong written skills, solid interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Currently eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Language skills in American Sign Language or Braille.
  • Familiarity/experience using adaptive or assistive technology for people with disabilities
  • Experience working with a Disabled People’s Organization
