Save the Children is at the forefront of the global response in the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic, especially among children and adolescents, in nearly 100 countries worldwide. We are collaborating with the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria (GFATM), the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and several other donors. The HIV and TB Unit at Department of Global Health leads the HIV and TB programs globally and also manages the Global Fund as account holder.

The Unit is currently seeking an Award Management and Finance support Intern or volunteer who will provide effective award management and backup support to the team in order to ensure on-time submission of donor reports and effective donor compliance.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Finance support

  • Work with Finance and Awards staff to monitor rate of spending in Country Offices (COs) and Save the Children US (SCUS) home office including charges such as personnel, travel, consultancy, sub-grant agreements, and troubleshoot and escalate as needed;
  • Work with COs and Finance to ensure expense charges are allowable, allocable and reasonable; and follow up to ensure errors are corrected;
  • Ensure effective and accurate Awards Management System (AMS) workflows (i.e. DBL, effective G&C review and approval, activation of FS as needed)
  • Ensure on-time reconciliation of SCUS related expenses (i.e. meetings, travels, etc.)

Award Management

  • Manage effectively grants assigned from start up to close out as necessary
  • Ensure all  communications, requests, amendments, etc. are communicated effectively and quickly addressed
  • Support the department/agency to maintain knowledge management systems (ensuring award files are kept up to date in consistent manner to support backstopping and handover)
  • Monitor award implementation, reporting and procurements to ensure compliance and appropriate completion
  • Track all assigned new opportunities in  AMS, and ensure that AMS is kept up to date
  • Play an effective role in proposal development i.e. cost lead in ensuring that appropriate SCUS costs are accounted and the overall value for money budget is accurately produced
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Must be eligible to intern or volunteer in the U.S.
  • To be classified as an intern: an individual must be enrolled in a relevant undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate academic program and able to receive some level of credit from his/her college or institution. (Minimum requirement is a letter of support and documentation is required only after an internship is offered.)
  • Any individual who is not a student or able to receive credit may apply for an internship, but will be classified as a skilled volunteer, not as an intern.
