A Senior Procurement Analyst is responsible for:

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directly supporting the Director and Manager in category management efforts in one or more of AARP’s four main spend areas: (a) Print; (b) IT; (c) Marketing and Advertising, or; (d) Professional Services (each category is over $100 million in annual spend).
  • Leading category management efforts as the procurement subject expert in one or more of AARP’s secondary spend categories.
  • Collaborating with business unit leadership to develop annual category management plans that include an annual sourcing calendar, a supply market overview, spend analytics, summary of business needs and cost drivers, and current supply-base overview (complete with listing of expiring agreements and plan of action).
  • Leading large, complex sourcing and negotiation efforts as part of the category management plan, to include coordinating multiple business unit and stakeholder requirements, creating and executing category management strategies, leading strategic sourcing projects following a multi-step strategic sourcing process, developing contracting strategies and leading negotiation efforts to finalize purchase agreements, managing the purchasing process to include issuing procurements in accordance with established policies, procedures and documentation requirements.
  • Critically evaluating information gathered from multiple sources, reconciling conflicts, decomposing high-level information into details, developing spend analytics, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguishing user requests from the underlying true needs.
  • Meeting annual category management objectives and targets related to spend under management, spend under contract, spend through approved buying channels, savings and other efficiencies.
  • Ensuring the procure-to-pay process for the category is compliant and in-line with service levels.
  • Building and maintaining key business unit and supplier relationships, resolving disputes and driving innovation and continuous improvement (customer and supplier relationship management).
  • Facilitating compliance with AARP procurement policies and procedures by setting a positive example, educating partners, and appropriately escalating issues when required or unsure.
  • Setting a leadership example for the broader PCM team – teaching and mentoring peers and less-experienced team members.
  • Occasionally leading PCM-wide initiatives beyond the scope of a given spend category (as directed).
Educational Background: 
The ideal candidate for this role will possess a college degree, with an MBA preferred,
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5 years or more years of relevant procurement experience – preferably with the majority in the private sector, with more than $15 million in managed spend. 
  • They must understand category management concept and frameworks. 
  • The candidate must show demonstrated leadership and a customer service mindset, and a deep understanding of both the source-to-contract and procure-to-pay segments of procurement operations. 
  • They should have experience working with PeopleSoft or other e-procurement technologies.
  • Must be adept at independently developing RF(x)s, negotiating purchase agreements and analyzing data from disparate sources to create category management strategies.  
  • Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate strong analytical skills and comfort with data manipulation and analysis. 
  • Key competencies include: leadership; subject matter expertise in the category they will lead (or the aptitude to learn it quickly); solid strategic sourcing and negotiations experience; relationship management skills and executive presence, and; both analytical and strategic
