Senior Advisor, Fraud Partnership - Programming

Serves as a strategic advisor leading partnership strategy and establishing relationships with key external stakeholders. Supports the overarching strategic direction of fraud programs. Provides analysis and strategic thinking to help set goals for designing, building, and implementing high-impact education and engagement programs that help achieve goals. Develops and successfully advances strategic and operational plans by influencing key internal and external stakeholders.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develops strategic external partnerships within the key external stakeholder, such as regulators, target industries, associations, individuals, and with opinion leaders to further the objectives of AARP’s Fraud Watch Network (FWN).  Represents AARP in external venues to provide information and advice, and as required, may use persuasion and negotiation skills to further progress on goals.  Develops relationship/coalition strategies, forging new relationships, as needed to advance AARP goals.  Oversees AARP involvement in relevant coalitions or influencer groups, in conjunction with management.
  • Supports the strategy development and planning necessary to achieve the programming goals related to strategic issue portfolio (as defined by relevant issue team).
  • Supports enterprise coordination of fraud efforts with rigorous strategy development, analysis, and leadership. Supports all aspects of cross-enterprise FWN coordination, but will be tasked with leading activities related to supporting management to ensure that enterprise activities are aligned around FWN goals.
  • Serves as point-of-contact for issue insights and works with team to surface key trends and relevant expertise.
  • Directs research, as needed to inform programmatic messaging, strategy, and offerings.  Identifies knowledge gaps and assesses research needs to drive programmatic goals. Commissions and directs qualitative and quantitative research initiatives in collaboration with specific groups/departments and/or other entities.  
  • Provides subject-matter-expertise and leadership.  Works closely with the design team on the programmatic offerings needed and partners with them on the identification of programmatic tactics, digital tools, social media tactics, and creation of programs from multicultural audiences. Collaborates on the distribution and implementation of the state programming and direct-to-consumer national offerings (e.g., online education and tools).  
  • Applies business analytics and ongoing data inputs to evaluate program progress against established metrics and standards, working with the design team to recommend mid-course corrections and process improvements, as needed. 
  • Serves as a spokesperson in both print and broadcast media, specialized media (e.g., trade publications), at major conferences, and in other public forums to advance AARP’s social mission.
  • Advises management and other executives, as requested on fraud issues and AARP’s programs -- with particular emphasis on community transformation, market influence, and consumer value proposition, and integrated marketing (as defined by the relevant issue team).  
  • Manages work to prescribed standards of excellence.
Educational Background: 
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred) in subject area (e.g., health, finance, sociology, education)
Skills/Experience: 
  • 8+ years of substantive experience in positions developing and implementing high-impact programs, particularly for non-profits; or a mix of education and experience relevant to work in a particular issue area.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build coalitions, design, implement, and adjust strategic plans and to work effectively with people at all levels. 
  • Travel (approximately 10-40%) will be required.
