This job is no longer available

Washington, D.C., USA
Internship

This is a 3-month Fellowship open to Stanford students only.

NRDC's Climate & Clean Energy (C&CE) Program is looking for a fellow to complete research and analysis on the clean energy transition in the U.S. and the implications it has on domestic and international decarbonization strategies. The fellow will dedicate most of their time with the Analysis Team (~80%), with up to 20% of their time dedicated to work with the International Team.

NRDC’s C&CE analysis team works with policymakers, industry, environmental groups, and other stakeholders to advocate for policies to reduce climate-warming emissions across the economy by providing modeling, data analysis, and other technical support. The Schneider Fellow will be an integral part of our team, analyzing policy design questions and helping develop technical resources for our climate and energy advocacy both domestically and abroad.

Areas of Responsibility:

One main element of this fellowship will be assisting on NRDC’s annual energy report. Each year NRDC reviews the most recent data to present an overall picture of the U.S. energy sector, and this report serves as an important advocacy resource for policymakers, media, and our members (see previous reports here). The scope of work will include: (1) completing research on recent U.S. energy trends and milestones, (2) compiling and synthesizing data from a variety of sources, and (3) helping draft the 2020 annual energy report.

The fellow may also:

  • Work on proactive federal policy, helping review modeling and develop graphics and other materials from this modeling.
  • Work with our federal energy and government affairs team on energy innovation policy and advocacy.
  • Work with our international team to understand clean energy trends in other countries.
  • Work with our international team to understand the emission reduction potential of different decarbonization strategies and policies.
  • Assist with the development and review of other climate & clean energy materials.
Educational Background:
The Schneider Fellows program is open to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students.
Skills/Experience:
  • Students who have already received a three-month Schneider fellowship are eligible for the one-year NRDC fellowships only.
  • Fellows commit to working 12 weeks or one year at their NGOs. Generally, fellowships begin in June, but the start date is often flexible, to be agreed upon by the Fellow and the NGO.
  • The NGOs will receive and screen candidate applications.
  • There are no limits to the number of fellowships to which applicants may apply.

About Us
Mission:

The Natural Resources Defense Council's purpose is to safeguard the Earth: its people, its plants and animals and the natural systems on which all life depends.

We work to restore the integrity of the elements that sustain life -- air, land and water -- and to defend endangered natural places.

We seek to establish sustainability and good stewardship of the Earth as central ethical imperatives of human society. NRDC affirms the integral place of human beings in the environment.

We strive to protect nature in ways that advance the long-term welfare of present and future generations.

We work to foster the fundamental right of all people to have a voice in decisions that affect their environment. We seek to break down the pattern of disproportionate environmental burdens borne by people of color and others who face social or economic inequities. Ultimately, NRDC strives to help create a new way of life for humankind, one that can be sustained indefinitely without fouling or depleting the resources that support all life on Earth.
