World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the world’s leading conservation organization, seeks an intern for the Pantanal Initiative. As part of the Latin American and Caribbean Secretariat, supports the Senior Policy Director in moving forward a three-year, trinational initiative that entails cooperating with the governments of Bolivia, Brazil, and Paraguay to author a joint sustainable development and conservation strategy for the world's largest tropical wetland. The intern will manage meetings anoordination between the focal points in the field offices and the key Pantanal team members in the WWF-US office; produce communications and donor materials for the Initiative; research and analyze studies, articles, and other literature in support of the Initiative; and provide administrative support as needed. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Conduct administrative tasks and technical support

  • Compile and organize all relevant documents, studies, internal and external publications, and media in a shared database for the team
  • Facilitate communications between key scientists, activists, policymakers, experts, and other stakeholders who have knowledge and a vested interest in the Pantanal
  • Coordinate tri-national staff communications, meetings, and requests. Follow-up with tasks and priorities discussed and assigned during the meetings and communications
  • Translate documents between English, Spanish, and Portuguese, as needed
  • Respond to the needs of the Pantanal team as they arise

Analyze, research, and generate solutions

  • Conduct original research and provide analysis based on the needs of the Initiative
  • Identify research gaps related to the Pantanal. Communicate and coordinate with researchers and experts on the Pantanal to fill in the gaps, resulting in collaborations, capacity building, and knowledge sharing

Strategic Communications 

  • Write drafts for grant applications for major and minor funding and partnership opportunities
  • Communicate the nature, successes, and vision of the Pantanal Initiative to donors, partners, multilaterals, and the general public.
  • Write compelling stories on the Pantanal for internal and external content
  • Generate key documents, agendas, strategies, and other materials in preparation for international conferences, technical meetings, and other key meetings.

 Performs other duties as assigned

Educational Background: 
Bachellors degree with strong understanding of conservation and environment, preferably with some understanding of water ecosystems, mainly the Pantanal wetland.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Demonstrated strong research capacity of the Pantanal. Understanding of the Pantanal Initiative institutions and processes. Excellent writing skills of communication materials and proposals. Team work.
