As a Global Advocacy Campaign Intern, you will support the fourth and final year of HFHI’s first-ever global advocacy campaign, Solid Ground, to improve access to land for shelter. The position will work directly with Habitat’s Global Advocacy Campaign Director and other staff in Habitat’s Government Relations and Advocacy Office as well as our Global Advocacy Team. You will learn from participation on a wide array of projects related to Habitat’s international policy work and the global campaign. You will focus on supporting campaign communications strategy and managing many of its communications channels including the Solid Ground microsite and the campaign blog, newsletters, action alerts, and social media. You will also support the development of tools and resources for Habitat’s country offices.
- This position is 3-5 days/week, unpaid internship based at our Government Relations and Advocacy office (Washington, D.C.)
- This is a 12-week internship, with flexible start/end dates between May and September 2019.
- Support the final year of HFHI’s first-ever global advocacy campaign.
- Manage content development and metrics analysis for campaign social media channels and support campaign microsite upkeep to increase public support for land access for shelter.
- Produce regular content for the microsite blog and support reaching out to other authors.
- Develop tools and resources to support network capacity building.
- Track and monitor global policy and advocacy success.
- Conduct research, analysis, and writing on policy issues that impact housing and international development.
- Attend external meetings, forums and events as requested by staff.

- Understanding of international development and related policies
- Experience managing social media channels (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram)

Preferred Qualifications:
- Campaign, international and/or housing experience
You will gain a deeper understanding of how a global non-profit is moving beyond one house at a time and increasing its impact through changing policies that affect adequate shelter. Successful candidates will be joining at the beginning of the global campaign, helping to build resources and define strategy for the next three years. In addition to the campaign, you will be exposed to other aspects of Habitat’s government relations and advocacy work and will acquire a firm grasp of housing sector and various advocacy tactics.
