Fall Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Intern

The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) intern will work under the direct supervision of the PRO-WASH Program Director with oversight from the Save the Children US (SCUS) WASH Advisor. This opportunity will focus largely on knowledge management activities involving research and mapping of available WASH interventions and resources. Additional opportunities will be assigned depending on both the interests of the intern, and broader needs of the SCUS WASH Team.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Work with the Project Director and Sr. Specialist to develop and validate a capacity mapping resource guide. This guide will provide an inventory of institutions and organizations, operating in Food for Peace (FFP) implementation areas that provide capacity-building opportunities responding to WASH core competencies. This guide will also be available via the Food Security Network (FSN) website for development and emergency partners, as well as, other relevant stakeholders working in the WASH sector.
  • Support ongoing efforts to edit and add to general WASH-related resources on the FSN Network website, including but not limited to those focusing on strategies and case studies for implementing emergency WASH programming, French-language WASH documents and toolkits/training for improving WASH behavior change activities
  • Coordinate with the Save the Children US WASH team to complete a mapping of urban WASH interventions, partners and donors in three priority countries still to be designated by the SCUS WASH Advisor
  • Create a consolidated list of standard WASH indicators for data entry via Kobo or Compass. This list should include indicators that span different settings (including health facilities, schools, households, communities) and health topics (nutrition, pneumonia, diarrhea, sepsis, etc.).
  • Work with the US and Global Save the Children WASH teams to create a team “offer sheet” which would include background information on skills, experience and project portfolios
Educational Background: 
Current undergraduate student with a focus on Public Health, Social Sciences or related field, previous experience working or studying WASH-focused programming in developing contexts is strongly desired
Skills/Experience: 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, solid interpersonal skills, detail-oriented, ability to work within a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Proven ability in research and experience conducting literature reviews
  • Graphic design skills (i.e. InDesign or Photoshop) are a plus
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
