The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is the nation's most effective environmental action organization. We use law, science and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations; our water enforcement cases played a major role shaping current water policy throughout the country. Today, our staff of more than 500 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy and communications experts, and others, work out of offices in New York, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Bozeman, Montana and Beijing.
NRDC is seeking an enthusiastic and strong writer to be a fall Energy Communications intern in our Washington, DC, office. He or she must care about environmental issues, be able to meet deadlines, take initiative, be familiar with social media, and possess an understanding of how video, photos, and graphics can help communicate a story. This is a 15 to 20 hour per week, unpaid internship for college credit.
- The intern will be working with the senior energy communications strategist, Senior Energy Communications Strategist.
- The work will focusSenior Energy Communications Strategist on using various tools to promote energy efficiency and support NRDC’s energy advocacy work.
- Duties will be varied and are expected to include assisting with Twitter outreach; helping to edit and/or generate fact sheets, news releases, and statements; and assisting with drafting and/or editing blogs for program staff.
- Interest in communications, advocacy and environmental issues.
- Ability to write quickly in a clear/concise manner.
- Familiarity with social media.
- Knowledge of ways to employ video, photos, and graphics to amplify a message.
- Ability to commit to at least 15 to 20 hours per week.
