Director, Fraud Partnership - Programming and State Support

Directs the team to build external relationships, deliver, promote, and monitor national- and state-based fraud prevention programming that provides 50+ consumers with the experience and education they need, while achieving social impact goals.  Provides leadership for partnership development, program development and promotion, and state technical support.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manages the analysis of key segments’ needs and wants related to fraud prevention to inform program design and metrics.  Directs research, as needed to inform programmatic messaging, strategy, and offerings.  Identifies knowledge gaps and assesses research needs to drive programmatic goals.  Commissions and directs qualitative and quantitative research initiatives in collaboration with specific departments/groups/or other entities.  
  • Directs the analysis, identification, and prioritization of local programming needs in collaboration with state offices and their leadership that engage the 50+ with strategic issue portfolio topics, with emphasis on community aspects of key issue (as defined by relevant issue team).  
  • Provides subject-matter-expertise and leadership in the assigned issue area.  Works closely with design team on the programmatic offerings needed and partners with them on the identification of programmatic tactics, digital tools, social media tactics, and creation of programs from multicultural audiences.  Collaborates on the distribution and implementation of the state programming and direct-to-consumer national offerings (e.g., online education and tools).  Focuses on a portfolio of programs related to strategy issue portfolio (as defined by relevant issue team).
  • Applies business analytics and ongoing data inputs to evaluate program progress against established metrics and standards, working with the design team to recommend mid-course corrections and process improvements, as needed. 
  • Develops (and manages staff to maintain) strategic external partnerships within the target external stakeholders (e.g., regulators, key target industries) and with opinion leaders to further the objectives of the various member educational campaigns.  Represents AARP in external venues to provide information and advice, and as required, may use persuasion and negotiation skills to further progress on goals.  Develops relationship/coalition strategies, forging new relationships, as needed to advance AARP goals.  Oversees AARP’s involvement in relevant coalitions or influencer groups, in conjunction management, if warranted.
  • Serves as a spokesperson in both print and broadcast media and specialized media (e.g., trade publications), at major conferences, and in other public forums to advance AARP’s social mission.
  • Advises executives, as requested on fraud prevention.  
  • Manages ongoing enterprise teams focused on fraud prevention and leads the educational component of relevant issue-based work that can complement advocacy and/or amplify advocacy wins.  
  • Manages the planning process for the issue team, working closely with appropriate partners.
  • Manages work to prescribed standards of excellence. 
Educational Background: 
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred) in Business, Consumer Advocacy, Regulation, Communications, Journalism, or other field related to the duties of the position
Skills/Experience: 
  • 8+ years of related experience developing, integrating, coordinating, and implementing high-impact initiatives in support of social programs, or a mix of education and experience pertinent to the position. 
  • Experience in for-profit, non-profit, governmental, or non-governmental organizations, focused on educating and informing others.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. 
  • Superior oral, visual, and written communications skills. 
  • Understanding of consumer market landscapes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others at all levels.  
  • Travel required up to 50%.
