Save the Children’s U.S. Programs and Advocacy division is seeking an Associate Director to join our Public Affairs & Development Department. Reporting to the Director, Public Affairs & Development, the Associate Director will lead proposal development, grant writing, and reporting associated with private grants and contributions from corporations, foundations and individuals. This position will also provide support as needed to public funding applications. This position requires exceptional writing and project management skills, ability to learn quickly on the job, and strong interpersonal skills. The candidate should possess the ability to manage projects independently, set priorities and take initiative as well as work as part of a cohesive development team.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop and write proposal and stewardship reports to private donors. Monitor requirements and deadlines. Work with colleagues to gather financial and programmatic information and research and evaluation data (50%).
  • Collect, analyze and synthesize the most up-to-date information and data about the U.S. Programs & Advocacy division’s strategic priorities and program areas to include as appropriate in grant proposals, reports and other donor materials (20%).
  • Track grant and reporting calendar to remain on deadline and ensure proposals/reports are submitted in a timely fashion (10%).
  • Initiate regular meetings with the Finance Department to monitor the status of grants to ensure that goals and objectives in grant letters and contracts are being met (10%).
  • Conduct research on identified prospects and develop cultivation strategies and creative funder outreach materials to support the U.S. Programs and Advocacy division’s funding needs (10%).
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree.
Skills/Experience: 
  • You have a minimum 5-7 years' experience in nonprofit fundraising proposal writing and research.
  • Excellent writing skills with a particular strength in relaying information in a concise and persuasive manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and perform under deadlines and changing schedules.
  • Ability to be a strong team player and willingness to work as part of a team with shared responsibility and accountability.
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness.
  • Working knowledge of donor databases and client management systems.
